Looked like a mostly clean hit and not a dirty one to me. Helmet did wind up making contact but it looked mostly shoulder to chest with incidental contact. We have had players ejected for similar/less hits though. Didn’t look like he intentionally tried to go to his head.

Intention is irrelevant and we have definitely been hit with ejections for less.

Forget if it was targeting. Was it Unnecessary roughness? Yes. Should have carried a half the distance to the goal and automatic first down.

Would have been offsetting penalties MHjr illegal touching, he went out then came back in, official hat on ground indicating he had stepped out.

He hit him too hard hoping the ball would not be caught. He should have put his skirt on and gave him a kiss.. what happened to hit him as hard as you can. No crown of helmet and no launch to the head. Just a solid hit. This is getting so ridiculous. Too hard? Really

I disagree with it being unnecessary roughness. In which way was it? Major Wrights hit was more illegal than this one and we ALL love that hit.

It amazes me how many fans can be so woefully ignorant of the rules, yet still remain so openly critical of calls in the game (that they clearly don't understand).

First of all, "unnecessary roughness" on a good hit is just ridiculous. How soft have we become as fans? These are 200lb athletes who typically run sub 4.6/40's...injuries, unfortunately, are inevitable. Now, does that mean we need to celebrate an injured player going out of the game? No. Does it also mean someone automatically needs to be blamed after a kid is injured? Of course not. Watch the slow motion replays & multiple camera angles, its completely clear this was just a solid, legal hit...which is why the refs picked up the flag. As its been mentioned, though, it was illegal touching even prior to the hit.

The timeout and first down conversion are also clearly not understood by a lot of fans. With regards to the TO call, it doesn't matter if the TO is actually called by the ref on the field prior to the snap...all that matters is the ref/side judge acknowledges the TO call before the snap. This is what happened in this game. The actual snapping of the ball is irrelevant, look how many times TO's are called on FG attempts. The ball is still hiked and kicked, but the result doesn't matter. As far as the first down conversion goes, the first down line extends indefinitely past/over the out of bounds line. All that matters in this case is whether or not the player themselves is still in bounds. In this case, Bowers was still in bounds, with the ball extended past the line to gain. Just like the hit on Harrison, the replays clearly show this. Its the same as a TD; all the ball has to do is break the plane...this plane extends indefinitely from side to side, past the pylon, as long as the player has not been ruled out of bounds. This is the reason a TD is called even with the ball outside of the pylon, as long as the player has not been ruled out of bounds prior to breaking the plane. Another way too look at it, think about all the pass completions where the ball (and majority of the receiver) was physically out off bounds, but the receiver had one foot in bounds. That's how the rule works.

Somehow there was a perfect camera right there. The replay clearly showed the ball past the line to gain before he was down, can’t believe he wasn’t down but there are plenty of photos showing it.

It’s not a matter of what we love, it’s a matter of the current rules and how they are enforced. There is supposed to be indisputable evidence to allow an on field call to be reversed. In both cases on the plays in question here there was not.

Get on Harrison in the end zone was indisputable to me. No launch no crown of a helmet. That’s more how they’ve been calling it this year because it is ridiculous.
