Your both right. Its factual that our recruiting ranking is about the same as Mullen's classes. Its also factual that the latest crop is the highest average ranking since Meyer. Its factual that Mullen's last few classes have fallen apart as far as playing for the Gators is concerned. What is just conjecture at this point is that this current class will outperform the previous several. As @msa3 said: "We'll see."
Thanks for providing a complete, corrected list of names. That is indeed an imposing list. But FTR, I still maintain that a substantial number of those guys simply saw the writing on the wall and took a powder on their own - or did so after being acquainted with the facts of life by BN and staff. But it's hard to argue that at least a third of those guys weren't highly regarded recruits coming out of HS who had shown some promise on the field at some point in time. Some clearly got their chance to strut their stuff and either failed to take the coaching that was being proffered, just weren't good enough, or didn't make the commitment to the program that BN demanded. One way or another, they're gone now and I'm not big on crying over spilt milk. My focus is on the future; starting with today's UA game featuring an impressive number of the guys who will be tasked with replacing the departed.
What’s funny about that gif it it’s actually Trump making fun of “legislation” (a.k.a. pork) given to him by The House
You said “talented players”. OP is talking about quitters. It’s possible to be both. There’s no denying that when dozens of players, only one or two of which were “great players”, choose to sit out our bowl game, they’re self-serving quitters. They freaking quit, just like last bowl game against OK - and that was a NY6 bowl game. Napier inherited a program with a cancerous culture. Meanwhile all of Bama’s players suited up for their “meaningless” bowl game. There was no championship to be won, but they suited up anyway because they had the pride and heart and work ethic. You can be “talented” and soft at the same time. We’ve heard it from former players looking at this team too. OP is spot on
None of the other teams are even close. Not even a little bit close. Also don’t know why you’d be including numbers from last years class unless you’re just pushing a narrative. That or you don’t understand the class separations, which would make sense. It has nothing to do with whats going on right now. It’s a bad post. You realized it was a bad post, but instead of just deleting the post, you doubled down on the bad numbers.
I’m saying that you added two classes of our transfers together, while not even getting a single class worth of numbers for the majority of the other teams you posted. You’re trying to make it look worse than it is. Then you realized you’d made an error, and instead of deleting your post, you doubled down on your wildly inaccurate numbers. We are not “6x” the number of transfers that LSU and TAMU have had in the last 12 months. I know those two are wrong without even looking anything up. That’s the narrative you’re pushing. The “last 12 months” is also an extremely weird window to look at when discussing recruiting. In recruiting, we discuss cycles. Adding portions of two separate classes together is just a weird way to discuss it, especially if you’re going to input incorrect numbers for all of the other teams you’re adding into the equation. I’m also saying that if you have a problem with those numbers, you weren’t very familiar with our roster situation. We were full up going into fall, so the transfers that left last season didn’t have spots. This year we would have been able to sign about 10 players total, from hs and portal without clearing out some room. Is that what you would have preferred? That’s my “deal”. I don’t know the exact roster situation for every other team in the country, but I know enough about a few of them to know the numbers you posted are wrong. My “deal” is that you’re pushing a narrative that’s, well, it’s factually incorrect for starters, but it also lacks understanding of our roster. I knew before the season started we would likely have around 20 transfers out after the season. I knew this because we almost had to, unless we were not going to take hardly any new players, and I knew that was highly unlikely. We’re a little over where I thought we’d be, and we lost a few I wish we would have kept, but that’s just part of it.
I think it's more than fair to say the world changed in regard to College Football and the validity of direct comparisons of players transferring might have diminished if not reached zero in regards program health /coaches /recruiting / fans / ice-cream sales, etc... otherwise it's good to see that people are OK
He’s still adding two classes of our transfers together while not even showing a single complete class for the majority of the other schools he references. If we kept all the transfers from last years class, we don’t get any of the incoming transfers. No Johnson, no Torrence, no Pearsall. We also lose several of our hs signees. Can you imagine this season without those guys? If we kept all the ones that left this year, we sign about 10-12 new kids total. So about half of our signed hs class and zero transfers. Add back in the transfers we would have kept from last years class, and that number shrinks even more. It’s a dumb narrative to push. Aside from being factually incorrect, it lacks any awareness of our roster.
I have a hard time calling them all quitters man. The ones who left mid season, sure. The guys who left before the bowl game, meh. If we’d won the game, you wouldn’t have given them a second thought, and I’m not sure we win even if they all played. We needed their roster spots and they needed to find a new home. Some of them were probably crushed that they’re being asked to leave. I have some sympathy for good portion of them. Some probably fall into the quitter category, but some don’t. I don’t see the point in making them play in the bowl game. If they want to play, I’m for it. If their heart isn’t in it, I’d rather go ahead and cut ties. But bama….we aren’t bama. Period. Full stop. I don’t know their roster situation, but I know we needed room. I don’t see the point in waiting until after the vegas bowl to have exit interviews. Get it done, and let both parties start building for the future.
Good points. If I knew I was being pushed off the team, I probably would not play in the bowl either. But, that doesn’t explain what happened in the bowl game against Oklahoma. I still believe this team has collectively had an attitude problem for years. It’s not just 1 year and damn sure isn’t Napier’s doing
The Oklahoma game was an entirely different situation and a different coach. Most of the players that sat out that game were leaving for the nfl, and you didn’t see me defending them. Only like 3 of the players that missed this bowl were leaving for the nfl, and I’m not defending them either. The transfers are something totally different. We needed their spots, and they needed to find a new home.
I noticed that disparity too, but since I'm not alarmed by the number of UF transfers since BN's arrival, due to the exact reasons you cited, I chose not to address the obviously skewed comparisons with other programs. I just viewed that as being irrelevant to the matter at hand, which is who actually left UF and over what period of time. Frankly, I'm actually glad that we are experiencing a massive roster turnover, we needed one. As I said in a previous post, anybody who doesn't want to be here needs to go. Anybody who doesn't want to work his ass off needs to go. And anyone whom Billy deems unfit by virtue of a deficit in talent or character also needs to go. I'm fine with swabbing the decks and flushing the gunnels, IMO, it's about damn time.
