Anthony Richardson should be the #1 pick in the NFL draft...

He may be picked up in the 2nd or 3rd round but I doubt he sees a lot of success in the league. He never could effectively read a defense, couldn't throw a simple swing-out pass and ran tentatively appearing to be avoiding contact, i.e. ditching the ball after rolling out when he had daylight in front of him. I just can't believe that pro scouts have not seen all this already by looking at our tape. As a person and rep of the Gators I thought he did fine, but the payoff never happened with AR.

Yes, regardless of how prepared we think he is, it seems clear he'll be picked early.

 

The people who are making the decisions are not like us. They don't feel burned or are filled with the disappointment of having a generational talent and having really nothing to show for it.

I think a lot of the home town assessments of him are tinged a bit with that disappointment and I get it. It's totally understandable.

NFL GM's and Player Personnel Directors could care less about what he did or didn't do to help the Gators win. That's our problem.

Many schools get burned with players outperforming their college performance.

We have actually gotten lucky where a lot of our guys did a lot better in college than the pros (Tebow, Danny, nearly all of our WRs, a lot of our DBs).

But it started under Champ where we started seeing players more productive in the pros than college. That happened on offense. We have quite a handful of successful OL floating out there

But Michigan obviously didn’t get to truly enjoy Brady. Kamara was disgustingly underused. Ole Miss has DK and AJ. Josh Jacobs didn’t get much run at Bama. The NFL is littered with these type of guys

 

First, I must say I wish the kid complete and total success at the next level. He was a good kid. True Gator. I loved when he did the float wave after TD's. Funny as hell.

Here's my concerns. Remember our shoe tosser? He does the combine has crazy numbers, jumps a million feet and really was okay for us- but not crazy good. Suddenly balling out in the NFL. I wonder if Richardson will suddenly be all world in the NFL? Because why didn't the other kid show up for us? I'm still confused about Richardson.

Was he mentally challenged in the game, and what I mean by that, could he read defenses? He has the pro arm like nobody's business, but seemed fragile and needs work. I would call him an NFL project. Unless suddenly he's like the shoe tosser- becomes all world. Who knows? Good kid, we saw unreal glimpses. Never the full complement.

Look how good Trask was an he's been sitting behind the goat forever. The NFL confuses me. Kids confuse me.

Gators never really had a big-ass NFL QB. Some balled out okay. Grossman and a few others. But no household name types. Maybe that'll be him, who knows? We had a few that left that did well.

it’s pretty simple, actually - UF has had some bad/lazy coaching at all levels for about the past ten consecutive years.

player development has been very poor at UF, and this has not gone unnoticed by the NFL. with razor-thin margins and a hyper competitive league where the extremely rigid salary cap makes parity a main focus, tiny advantages mean a ton.

drafting a UF player often means getting very good value because they haven’t been properly coached in college and can outperform their draft slot with competent player development.

 

The question is not whether Richardson will be the #1 pick or even a 1st round draft pick, but whether he will succeed in the NFL despite not being a statistically good QB in college.

If you look at the NFL QB power rankings for last week you will see that 16 QBs were drafted in round 1. Here is the tally of NFL draft rounds.

Some of these starters have similar college profiles as Richardson in terms of QB rating in year 1 as a starter, but AR obviously gets bonus points for physical attributes. On the other hand, there are no comparable QBs on last week's NFL QB power rankings who did the bare minimum of one year as a starter before jumping for the NFL. Here is a random sampling of year 1 college passer ratings for Richardson and starters on the NFL QB power rankings:

• #13 Gardner Minshew 124.0 (129.1 in year 2; 147.6 in year 3 after transferring to Mike Leach's Washington St)

• #29 Tyler Huntley 138.1 (140.1 in year 2, 177.6 in year 3)

College statistics and draft round do not necessarily tell the entire story.

 

That’s what I thought about UGA players during the Richt years. Now it’s us.

 

I think AR will be an NFL bench warmer and then a long term starter in the Canadian Football League. Anthony Richardson is the kind of Quarterback they love in the CFL.

 

It doesn’t bother me personally that he went pro. It’s a no brainer. The kid is about to get lifechanging money. That doesn’t mean I believe he will ever be a top 15 nfl qb. I’d bet big money on the other side of that bet. I love the kid and hope he is tge super bowl mvp in a few years but I just don’t see it.

 

Players that don’t light up a combine but are just great football players. Sometimes I wonder why these pro scouts can’t see that a player is just good at football.

 

Did you watch this game between Tulane and USC game and yesterday for example TCU? These players went above and beyond for their team and school. And we, Gators, have, had, a quarterback who thinks he is God’s gift to the NFL and has achieved nothing significant as a Gator quarterback or a leader of his team who decides to go pro. That’s entertainment? and I spent $5000 to watch. I guess I’m the one who is delusional. GO GATORS…someday

 

The question is why are we not getting players who want PLAY. By the way I hate to say it but the fsu quarterback is a gamer and is coming back for another season. He entered the FSU about 2020 and waited his turn last year and is now producing big time. Where is our guy?

 

He didn’t even show for the bowl game. Way to represent your hometown school and be leader to the team. Does the NFL really need this type of player?

 

Big picture, if he has that kind of success, it will only help us. We should all hope this happens.

 

I spent about 5k to watch three games, don’t matter. I’ll never pay a dime to watch a bowl if the team doesn’t care about it.

 

If that's the heart of the man I don't want him on my NFL team infecting my players with his me first attitude. I watched him grinning and joking on the bench while we were losing and if I were an NFL coach I wouldn't want him anywhere near my players.

 

I’ve never heard any 75% talk but he didn’t play, that I know.
