There's an old quote—“the cavalry isn't coming”—that means waiting around for help just isn't going to happen. So what to do? Lots of folks can complain about the moneyed gators, or whine about the collective. Or do more. Is anyone willing to step up dollar wise (if you have not done so?) I hate the straight up payment like most do. I’m willing- bc I don’t see whatever UF supporters doing as working. Am I alone in thinking there’s room at the table?
In the current college football environment I cannot see a way to be successful without getting down in the mud with everyone else. Either you commit to pay to play or you are subject to be an also ran. Nick Saban was not ranting because he hates NIL. He was ranting because Texas A&M out paid him for recruits and he was sending a message to his boosters that its their fault if Bama does not win. NIL is here to stay and we either all have to start funding our NIL or whatever is called or get used to being a 7-8 win program at best. College football is dead.
And you see how Bama responded with their class this year. Saban has no problem with it as long as they stack the deck more than anyone.
College football isn't dead. Were Bama fans heading to the exits when Saban was winning? It will continue to chug along Fans will watch and cheer no matter the name of the players. If their here for a yr or all four. Wins fill the stands and the pockets, period.
I know you agree with this…bowl games are dead, but with the expanded playoffs and transfers, college football will be as big as ever. Just watch.
A lot of you guys are wayyyy too focused on $$$ and NIL. Why is there so much discussion on this BS? Who cares? Why talk endlessly about something we have such little control over, and don't truly know most/all of the details about what's going on behind closed doors? Might as well go argue politics.
we have no control over how the plays are called during the game. we have no control over how the players execute, yet there’s a whole forum built on it. This is a message board, to discuss things we really don’t control at all.
Apples and elephants. When we watch football, we can see it with our own eyes. We're all looking at the same thing at the same time watching it unfold together with our own perspectives. We discuss and analyze and form our opinions based off of something that's out in the open for the whole world to see. So what's the use in discussing NIL? It's all behind closed doors, it's a lot of hearsay and most of it is unfounded nonsense. So is it really enjoyable to speculate on that stuff 24/7? Unless the people directly involved (players, boosters, coaches) are sharing info, why should we care?
For the most part you just described recruiting in it's entirety. Most behind closed doors, lot of hersay, lot of nonsense. So I guess I wonder why you are on the recruiting board to begin with?
Sorry, I guess I'm not being clear enough with my point. Nowadays, whenever a school "steals" a recruit from us, there's a handful of folks on here all up in arms about Florida supposedly being too cheap and not wanting to buy a recruiting class good enough to make us a championship contender. It's getting old.
Depends on who steals them. If its Alabama or Georgia, its our lack of success vs. their unprecedented success. Its very hard to beat Saban and Smart for someone they really want. If its a program like scUM, then, yes its the bag and the 305 lifestyle. It's fair to say that we're focused on doing things by the rules. Some of our own rules are much stricter when it comes to admissions. So yes, competing with one arm tied behind your back is aggravating. Sorry if the truth is getting old.
Every thread is turning into an NIL bitchfest. When so and so signs with another school, we didn't pay enough. When we don't sign 10 guys from the portal in the first week, we aren't paying enough. When we sign Mertz instead of Leary, we were definitely outbid by an inferior school. Blah blah blah. We even had threads on here with folks trying to predict how much money "we" should spend on each position group. That isn't how it works. Either be patient and see how it plays out, or go root for Alabama.
I agree, patience is necessary in this situation. There's a few 5* that would be here already if we paid. That would make the rebuild faster. You are correct, it ain't going to happen that fast.
