Rashada indicated that he thought it would take the average quarterback a year to learn Napier's system? It sounds like you think Rashada will accelerate his development? Or is it just wishful thinking?
I’m just saying it’s 9 months til we kickoff and I’m not ready to say we’ll be worse there. Giving specifics means I need to be critical of AR, which I don’t care to do. I’ll say this: I don’t care where AR gets drafted - that means zero to me. I care about production from the position at UF…and I think his production is very replaceable. Especially the intangibles.
Wait a minute. I’ve read here over and over that Napier runs a simplistic, outdated, high school offense. How does it take a talented QB a year to learn that. Perhaps Rashada knows more about Napiers offense than the keyboard cowboys here.
Yeah, and we noticed everybody was clamoring for Graham, huh? Obviously, Billy likes to gamble, but my money is not on Mertz! Alright fellas, let's stir the pot. I'm assuming that Billy is done at quarterback. I think, because Rashada comes in January, he starts next year. With Lagway coming in the following year, Rashada doesn't need to redshirt. I expect Rashada will go through on the job training, and Miller and Mertz are safety valves.
the offense IS complicated. They DO use NFL concepts- the playcalling is highschool level. Just because you have concepts that are complex doesn’t mean you’re utilizing them or using them at the right times. The absence of a quick game, the disappearance of certain aspects of our offense for long periods, time management, aggression, feel for the game… doesn’t take a keyboard warrior to figure that out. Now, will the play calling hit an evolution? Will it look different with better talent and execution? Hopefully. I think it might. But even opposing teams said our offense was easy to stop.
Rashada's apparent ability to hit a swing pass to a back like Johnson or ETN would be an immediate improvement over 2022. I have heard too many coaches say over the years that great players make coaches look like geniuses.
If we had a qb that could make quick short reads and utilize our te’s and rb’s, perhaps the playcalling would be different. If the call should be a quick slant and the qb can’t execute it. AR was decent on the longer passes and slower developing plays but not a threat to hit the quick ones. That’s what’s easy to defend.
If a qb can’t make the easy plays, the splash plays can’t consistently move the sticks. Consistently moving the sticks is what good qbs do.
Not bold at all, actually. We were really bad in 2022. Lol The majority of snaps played in 2022 all return, and they’ll be one year better. We’ll be much better across the DL, especially DT. McClellan has a very high ceiling, and could be more disruptive in 2023 than anyone in 2022. Toss in that Watson will be one year better and we added two DT transfers, and we’ll be much better at DT. Our LB’s will be better, especially if James takes a big jump. we return the more important CB’s…with Marshall getting to his critical year 3 season. We might take a step back at safety, but we’re not done with the portal. So let’s see. I predict every unit will be better in 2023 on D. I know that feels bold to you, but that’s actually a safe bet from where I’m standing. Happy to revisit this in 11 months with ya
That’s what I’m hoping. That’s logical. We played with 9-10 players most of the time due to TE position and AR inaccuracy. But the designs were not there either. So my hope is - staff just knew that was not possible and didn’t try and create those opportunities but we won’t know for a bit
I don’t think subscribing to the idea that having a lot of the same guys back means you’re better. We had alot of guys back from 2021 and we were worse in pretty much all facets on D. You’re predicating your prediction on quite a few guys making big jumps and ignoring losing some good players to portal and draft. I hope you’re right and time will tell. Perhaps with another year of learning the scheme overall the D will be much better. It will need to be. Thus far i’m not impressed with Toney, many of us were calling for more press man coverage and when they did that (2nd half vs TAmm) they were much better
We might be as good as in 2022 if the two transfers can play. You forgot to mention that we lost Dexter who had the most snaps in 2022 at DT. Watson will continue to be limited until he loses some weight, and I haven't seen an iota of evidence that will happen. Our best LB (and it wasn't close) and 2nd best are gone and James is the only non-true freshman left on the roster with a pulse. Even if he takes a order of magnitude jump in 2023, without a portal transfer or three, this position has all the markings of a complete trainwreck in 2023. I think we are good at CB and hopefully added some quality if inexperienced depth on 12/21 I heard Torrence the Safety was in the Portal, but I may have mixed him up with O'Cyrus. If he comes back I think this position at worst would be equal to 2022 and likely better. I'm not sure how a player could be worse than Dean and when some of the true freshmen were on the field in 2022 they did some good things.
I didn’t forget about dexter, I just view him differently than others. People are still hung up on his HS ranking, so this feels like a big loss to most people. He was not on the season end All SEC teams - for a reason. If there was a 3rd team, all SEC…he would not have made it either. Maybe honorable mention, maybe. McClennan in 2023 is going to be better than anyone we had in 2022, including dexter. That’s not bold, and doesn’t require much of a jump on his part.
I like what McClellan did in 2022 too and hope he breaks out in 2023. Hopefully the transfer portal D lineman and Norman will be studs. You probably could tell I'm more concerned about LB right now.
Been reading/hearing very positive things about Rashada from the coaches this week, mostly about his work ethic and desire to learn and get better. I think he'll be great for the short game given his vision and decisiveness. What I most look forward to is deep throws to Mizell. Hoping we get to see some of that late in games this next season.
