So, for kicks and giggles… who you got? Frost? Kerwin (USF can hardly be held against him)? Would Brian Johnson consider leaving the league?
I am ALL IN on Billy Napier. However, IMHO, he is stretched way too thin trying to: 1) Totally overhaul the wreckage left by Genius Dan. 2) Carry out normal HC duties. 3) Handle QBs. 4) Be OC and call plays. He needs to focus on his strengths and hire someone better to do 3 and 4.
I cannot say, but they might be coaches that Napier already knows. That's what I would expect him to be looking into. He needs people he can trust and that have enough knowledge to help him focus on being the CEO more than the coach with the complexity of a juggler in a cirrus. Her needs people that he can trust so that he can delegate and think about the bigger picture in his college coaching profession.
He has a guy who handles QBs, Ryan O'Hara offense analyst for QBs. Ryan O'Hara - Offensive Analyst – Quarterbacks - Staff Directory - Florida Gators He has an OC, Rob Sale. Rob Sale - Offensive Coordinator / Offensive Line - Staff Directory - Florida Gators
If Johnson leaves the league it's to become a head coach. He was interviewing for HC jobs before jumping to the NFL.
He’s got some special talent. Not many get to be hc and still do what they are really good at. To me, Mullen is no ceo but he definitely has talent. Where does Johnston shine?
He appears to shine as an OC and QB coach. It's all he has done his whole career. He was a QB for Utah as a player. It appears his future is in the league.
Billy Napier has given every indication that he will not do either of these things - including directly stating that he will not do them.
I’d like Jeff Scott as OC and Geoff Collins as DC, but neither will happen and I’m not gonna waste any time crying about it.
They see the system as “by commitee”. If you listened to any off season stuff- they have a team of coaches that have divided up sets of down and distance with sets of plays for each. It’s really analytical and you saw the effect is zero feel for the game…. There’s a serious paralysis through analysis going on over there.
Ike Hilliard imo, did a great job as Auburns interim OC. Called a bunch perfectly l timed running plays, screens & reverses that worked like a charm and got them a well needed SEC win. (their QB is pretty bad). He really seemed to have superb timing. Tell me he couldn’t recruit big time players in Louisiana & Florida, especially Tampa. Robert Gilliespie (at Alabama now?) another idea. Plenty of good coaches out there to help out. The ol 2 brains-better-than-one. I’d like a new, seasoned SEC exp. DC or Co-DC myself. It’s not like we don’t have the money and Napier needs help.
Did you forget about our porous defense Bazza? It's amateur hour on the other side of the line. Toney only has been a DC since 2020 (Louisiana). And we nearly lost to 1-10 USF on our home field.
