Looks like a cry for attention honestly. She knows everyone is going to notice that she didn't mention Napier and Sale. There is no need to mention the past coaches over a tweet; if she really wanted to thank them she could have just called Mullen and Hevesy or sent them a text because I know she has their numbers. Instead, she went out of her way to mention them in the tweet so everyone would point out the obvious - that she had left out the current coaches. Cant forget to add the #mommawhite at the end bc everyone knows its about her. I hate writing this comment about someone I dont know but dang, this looks like someone seeking attention man

Coaches who were hot their first year:

    Jim Harbaugh (10-3)
    Dan Mullen (10-3)
    Jim McElwain (10-4)
    Gus Malzahn (12-2)
    Steve Spurrier (9-2)
    Larry Coker (12-0)
    Lincoln Riley (12-2)
    Chris Petersen (13-0)
    Ryan Day (13-1)
    Sonny Dykes (12-1)

Coaches who were not so hot their first year:

Kirby Smart (8-5, lost to Vandy and Georgia Tech)
Nick Saban (6-7 lost to UL-Monroe)
    Pete Carroll (6-6)
Billy Napier (6-7 lost to Vandy and all of our rivals)
    Bobby Bowden (5-6)
    Bob Stoops (7-5)
    Mel Tucker (2-5)
    Jim Tressel (7-5)

There are multiple ways to look at this data. I think I have figured it out, though. A good first year record can be the product of a few things:

    1) A great offensive play caller. (Spurrier, Malzahn, Riley, Mullen, Day, Dykes, Petersen).
    2) Inheriting a stacked team, especially on defense (McElwain, Coker).

What jumps off the page about the first list is 1st year success only really indicates you have a good OC or you inherited a lot of talent. It means nothing more or less than that. And a subpar 1st year doesn't necessarily doom a coach going into the 2nd year. Plenty of good coaches have issues the 1st year. The good coaches, though, grind until they fix their problems.

And the better collection of coaches are in that 2nd list with the worse 1st year records. It is not the elite OCs who win championships. It is the CEO/recruiter types with the slower ramp up that build the dominant college football programs through recruiting and defense that wins championships.

Stop lusting after fool's gold and have a little patience. That is my thought on things. Next year will also be rough because the roster will have very few returning starters. Having success next year is highly unlikely based on what we know about the relationship between returning starters and on-field success. That doesn't mean Napier sucks. It is just the statistical reality of the situation, but I believe 2024 and 2025 will be the years where we start to ramp up and see Napier's full capabilities. We need to see what Napier can do with an experienced multi-year starter at QB. And Mertz does not count. It has to be a multiyear starter at UF under Napier with the improved WR talent coming in. I think Rashada in 2024 with the returning starters will give us a strong year 3 ramp up.

Prediction for next season: defense will look normal and if the scores are remotely close, Billy will be a genius. So, Gator Nation, brace yourselves!
