Great press conference that explained a lot. "Process driven over results" now. Also mentioned how he was slow to adjust on transition defense earlier in the year and has made adjustments. Defense is so much better with players fighting through screens and moving now and are as he said, "really hard to score on....less than a point per possession". They look coherent on D now.

i understand teams are likely willing to double bc the risk of being burned on the perimeter is lessened by our shooting.
But, however we play… we ultimately need to take shots. So let’s get better ones. If teams double Colin… he is shown to be solid at recognizing and passing. And perhaps, if the ball goes inside-out… we get better looks.
And putting Colin on the blocks doesn’t preclude basket cuts. We saw it last night with Reeves.
If help comes… and Colin recognizes, the defense is now in rotations. Some ball movement can get us solid shots. And if teams don’t double- he is a handful down there.

It’s disappointing that we didn’t get a shot attempt up on the play after our last timeout. Giving Castleton the ball that far from the basket was the best analytical chance for success? I’m not buying it. You don’t have to be a basketball genius to realize that Castleton isn’t very good at handling the basketball if he has to take more than one dribble to get to the basket. I’m sure that the coaches were banking on him getting to the free throw line because he had just sank two in the previous possession. I’d rather Fudge handle it if we are gonna try to make a rim run from that far out. He’s much quicker than Castleton and had made a couple successful drives earlier. Castleton wasn’t going to beat anyone to the basket with his quickness.

    Brent,
I don't get where you are coming from.
UF stunk it up against Auburn. 18% from three? Really?? You are going to applaud that???

Obviously everyone has an opinion, my opinion was that UF would be equal or superior to CMW's teams the last couple of years. As in Immediately, as in THIS YEAR!

We are NEITHER. Can't shoot, can't score, to many mistakes in crunch time.

I get it, first year coach, program, youth ...all of the normal excuses given when a new team is not particularily good.

I just am not ready to praise that Gator effort last night when Auburn probably played their worst game of the year.

After 13, color me dissapointed with coach and the team. UF is going nowhere but home in March.

Yeah, the defense has come a long way. That will keep up us in games, now we just need to make shots.

While I don't expect them to resolve their 3-pt shooting issues, if they can and start making 30% or more and continue to play with the intensity of last night, 12-6 SEC play is not out of the question. Lose to Kansas St, and that gives us 19 wins going into the SEC tourny. Win 1 there and should get into NCAA. They'll likely win no more than 9 SEC games, which puts them on the NIT bubble.

WOOOOW! Not your normal Mr. Negativity post, I like it. I, too, agree that they should growth last night. If they just could have had a productive trip or 2 after getting 4 late in the game instead of having 2 crap possessions, it might have ended much better.

Yup, we missed 2 WIIIIDE open 3s and a couple more open 3s, plus a couple missed bunnies. Make just half of those and we win.

Did you intend this for me? I am genuinely confused. Where did I applaud our three-point shooting?

The defense was better last night so that is encouraging although I would like to see a little more variety other than man to man every single game.

    Your statement:
Proud of our team. We have gotten so much better. Earlier in the year this would have gone differently - I’m ther way. If we can stay together … and I think this group can… i think we will get really hot the next couple weeks.

You did not applaud 3 point shooting. But all of the above is direct from you. I completely disagree. Proud? Of what? Losing?? Get really hot? Against who?? Not in the SEC.

Hey, I love Gators Hoops but I'm not going to sugar coat what we have seen so far. This team is terrible and I think going .500 in the SEC this year is not remotely possible. I hope I am wrong.

I have already written this years BB team into the same category as the football team: Wait until next year.

He was typing what the coach said. Have you never seen one of these “typing as i listen” threads? He does this after every game.

Hi paid - thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Answer: YES I HAVE, Brents updates are legendary (I always love them).

Brent I apologize, but my Gator "inner-peace" is all askew right now.

I was putting alot of anticipation and excitement onto the BBall this year, thinking it would be quite successful. Given football was a dud, I am unsettled by UF's apparant collapse in my two favorite sports.

    OK, I will quit beyotching............

The reason why we lost wasn't because we shot poorly from the arc. So did Auburn. It wasn't that we shot poorly from 2 point range. We shot really well from there. It wasn't even at the free throw line where we scored one more point than Auburn taking five fewer attempts. It wasn't because Auburn out blocked us. We had six blocks and Auburn had only three. It wasn't because we turned the ball over. We had 12 turnovers and Auburn had 15.

So how did we lose? Auburn had 17 offensive rebounds and we had only 5. Auburn just had many more bites at the apple.

Now, how do we fix this problem?

Now, how do we fix this problem?

Stick butt in opponents navel. Put two hands behind your back just enough to 'feel" your opponent back there, push off with ones butt and then - Crash the Glass.

Our coach was always yelling "BOARDS" for pretty good reason.

it works, I was all of 5' - 8" and of course coach had me guarding a guy that was 6' - 3". Refs called a couple of fouls on the guy "climbing" my back.

Proviso - I'm talking Jr. High skill levels here - lol but blocking out does work! Interestingly, from my perspective, this seems to be something that is not concentrated on as much as one would like to see these days.

I was really good at blocking out and know how to do it. I could keep guys way more athletic than me away from the ball. I had guys complain to me that if I wasn't trying for the rebound myself that I shouldn't box them out and I said it was so my teammate could get the rebound and to keep you from getting it.

I played intramurals with Dwayne Dixon who not only was a great Gator football player and coach he was also a very good basketball player. He would run a drill with us where we had to box out so well that we couldn't grab the rebound until after it bounced on the floor. That was a tough drill.

And kids playing Division I ball must have been taught this fundamental skill early on, but rebounding is also about desire. You have to want the ball more. It is the dirty work of basketball. I don't know how to teach that mental aspect of the game.

Given that we play mostly man to man defensive rebounding shouldn't be a problem. You have a guy and you box him out. But we got DESTROYED last night. I might watch the game again to see why.

Our roster is full of "3" and probably not one legitimate "4" unless you play Castleton there and insert Jitoboh at the "5"

Last night, Felder played a very productive 7 minutes IMHO. I wonder how effective Felder would be with Fudge for some minutes, especially if we are getting killed on the glass
