Huge turnaround from 2 wins last year! This version of the Jags reminds of 1996 when they eked into the playoffs by winning all 4 regular season games in December and upset the Bills and the Broncos in the playoffs! They were 4-7 mid November before they went on a run and didn't lose the rest of the year. Not saying it's happening again but there are a lot of similarities.
While that's true, it came at a high price. He admitted that the program was broken when he left, which was quite since it was his program to break.
I am from Jax and follow the Jags, their “little, mini-turn around” this year has been fun to watch and made up for the disappointing Gators football season. The started coming together and playing as a team since last month. (Dont mistake what I said above as the Jags are going to win the Superbowl and be the next NFL dynasty. I simply said they have been fun to watch relative to the product they’ve produced in recent years)
For the record I’m not dunking on Meyer. I have fond memories of his time with the Gators, too. I’m more dunking on the posters who purport to know football and still thought what underachieving NFL players need is a coach to be extra mean to them and treat them like babies.
Lol, that’s better than 1-15. And doing that in the nfl is a lot better than 5-7 in college. They get zero cupcakes.
Saban was not a good fit for the NFL, nor Urban, Ruhle, or even Spurrier. Pete Carrol was after successful stint at USC, but only after he failed with the Pats. Lou Holtz failed in the NFL. Kliff looks to be failing in Arizona. Lane Kiffen failed with the Raiders. Jimmy Johnson was successful with the Cowboys from college. Can’t think of too many college to the NFL success stories.
For a second there Skink I thought I saw the Jags at the top of the AFC South. Must have been a misprint
I think I lead the posters in most time banned. I must say it wasn’t bad , actually refreshing. The mod was not revealed. But I’m sure in “mod land “ he is in a virtual high 5 with the others.. . “I showed that Wingtee what’s up “
When you can buy your roster, it kinda tilts the table a bit. Draft and coaching in nfl is a way more accurate measure of ability. If SOS or Saban were able to get a top, maybe things would’ve been different for them. Neither wanted to play tge long game it takes to be successful in the pros. Much easier to just get the players you want.
Sometimes. Bucs this year would be the counter narrative. Veteran team that tired of the rah rah and BA getting on their asses and went with a "player's coach" (see: Substitute Teacher). Obviously, there is a balance that is needed for success.
Except the average coaching tenure in the NFL seems to be about 3 years. Not disagreeing with most of this, but the owners are rarely about the "long game."
