I think CBN said he needed to take care of schoolwork and he decided to go elsewhere for an opportunity to play.

 

Two years of riding the pine when you don't have much eligibility will do that. Some players have great skills and instincts but have a hard time learning their position is what I would suspect, and that is probably why Perkins was not a starter and just filled in as needed.
