We need Napier to provide that stability but when you make the wrong hire and hamstring the staffs, disaster happens and there has to be a change. Give this staff what they need to recruit decent classes no matter tge cost or just rollover and quit.

They’ll get just enough, but not what many fans expect. It might work in other conferences but not when the direct competition is Georgia, Bama, LSU and now Texas and OU.

Bama lost twice and damn near lost to a weak A&M team. I don’t know if they beat TCU. This was not as great a team as they are used to having

They almost lost three more times but TCU would’ve been beat before they ever got to the championship game in the sec. Watch what happens to them. Notre Dame all over again. Bama wouldn’t get embarrassed by any team in the playoffs. They aren’t great as in years past but they still won’t get manhandled by stronger kids because they don’t belong.

We don’t have to win the sec, just 10 wins and not losing to Vandy has to be the floor.

I read somewhere that Mullen spent 15 minutes on the game plan of the Missouri game in 2021. If that was true, there is no doubt that he was trying to get fired so he could leave town with his 12 million buyout.

That’s probably where I see UF. 9/10. Consistently is the key. But we are on level with UK now. No reason they should have caught up to UF and that started under Mullen. People are wanting UGA and Bama level. UF needs to get back to being above the others before they start worrying about them.

Yep. He fired himself. He was done after SEC championship. I don’t even care about his lazy recruiting, but him checking out was a big slap in the face.

he reallly thought he was going to ride our O and it’s season to an NFL job and the only thing that got him was Brian Johnson going off to the Eagles and look at what he’s done as the Eagles QB coach

I think we have to wait and see where this goes. It's way too early to start throwing dirt on Napier. I am also uncertain of what the final outcome will be, but we're not getting anywhere by giving up this early.

Context is important. Too many here still think this program is elite. They think this is just a temporary situation. 14 years is not temporary. This is by far the longest gap between conference titles since we started winning them (in 1984, in my opinion). The competitive landscape is far more difficult than it was in the 90's too.

We're a ways off from winning championships, regardless of who leads this program.

I don't think anyone here is good with that.

OTOH, having unrealistic expectations in the current environment is not good for mental health. I think there is a realistic expectation for us to get back to playing for championships and realizing where we are and how far we have to go to get there.

It's not going to be fast and running off this coach isn't going to get us there quicker, either.

And this is the reason he is having a hard time landing another HC job. Doesnt have the stomach to build a program from ground up anymore.

Winning championships starts with recruiting. Gone are the days of coaching your way into a 'ship with a transcendental QB.

I agree with most of that but I don’t think it’s more diff now, just more expensive. Think about all the great coaches and programs SOS had to get through. He only won once but there were so many programs that were in tier one.

I'd like to see outstanding players on both sides of the ball. If we find the great QB at the same time, all the better.

We had Diddy and scUM to contend with in state. That was his biggest barrier to National Championships.

SEC was generally down back then, with UT being the exception. Alabama was a bit up and down during the Stallings era too.

Now, the opposite is true. To win the SEC, you have to be literally the #1 team in the nation.
