I’ve never claimed the administration isn’t an issue, but no coach has really been able to establish any kind of foundation for success when they get run out of dodge at the first sign of adversity. Just look at the reaction to BN after one season. It’s kinda disgusting IMO. Not a lot of programs that have burned through coaches are doing well. I’m in no way saying the hires were good but we’ve seen what this job does to coaches. UF needs stability more than anything right now. Running off another coach will do more damage than good.
We need a GOOD coach. That is what creates stability. Stability for the sake of stability gets you a Butch Jones, turmoil in the fanbase, and half empty stands. I'm not saying that Napier won't be that coach, but signs aren't all positive right now.
So let us continue to complain about how the administration makes it hard for any coach to compete and then give the coach a hard time because he’s not competing at our expectation. Makes sense.
Hey...I'm all for canning the entire Admin too since it appears that they may be a lot of the problem. Maybe we can fire up that "Fire Scott Stricklin" chant this Fall if things go poorly.
I’ve always said that’s where most of the anger should be directed. We should be somewhat grateful BN was able to get the administration to pony up. It’s not his fault it’s a decade late. I think Mac deserves a little credit for pointing some of the issues out. Now it’s a new problem with transfer portal and NIL and likely our administration will drag their feet and play it safe. Some fans see the positive in that, but they shouldn’t expect competition with the big dogs. I don’t think it’s fair to direct all the angst at BN. I don’t think Kirby could come to UF and replicate what he’s doing at UGA. So I’ve just excepted that UF isn’t going to be a huge player at the top like in the past. Now with OU and Texas coming in, we will be relegated further down.
new sheriff in town and some peeps don’t like it. https://hailfloridahail.com/2022/12/26/florida-football-chris-mcclellan-transfer/amp/
Mac got canned in part for publicly voicing uncomfortable truths, however I truly hope BN isn't using a decade old plan to build the foundation of this program because all the big dogs threw that plan in the circular file a year or two ago. I agree. Our administration appears to be glacial in their reaction to new environments. But if they don't want to be part of big boy sports then they shouldn't expect a lot of fans to continue to pony up big bucks to see halfhearted efforts on the field. Agreed and Kirby would have never taken a job at any University that didn't allow him to compete on an even playing field with Bama. Are you good with that? I'm not. Most people don't know that prior to becoming everyone's favorite Homecoming opponent, Vandy was the original Southern powerhouse team (from about 1900-1925). I would really hate to see my school end up there, but if something isn't done fairly quickly that is the direction UF could be headed.
Based on what exactly do you think Napier isn’t the coach to rebuild this program? The first year record?
Read my post again: "I'm not saying that Napier won't be that [Good] coach, but signs aren't all positive right now."
They are all over this message board....go read a few threads. Some of the complaints are horse hockey, but there are a lot of valid concerns.
You see a trend when coaches are trying to get the penalties down. First year is bad because there are still too many who have not bought in but have to play. The following years with the new coach's players the penalties go down. When the wheels fall off and the players stop caring again, penalties skyrocket. We should see at least a couple of years following with much lower penalties because Napier is starting with a better first year on penalties than Mullen did.
Not much expected from my point of view. We will have either an avg qb or a freshman with a very weak offensive line. That to me says we are going to struggle to score at all on decent defenses.
I am good with it. UF needs a Richt type coach right now IMO. Several seasons of stability. Edit: Because UF isn’t set up to compete with the upper echelons, regardless of who is coach.
