Gator Nation knew something was very wrong in 2022. Now, we know, to a certain degree, Mullen recruits didn't like Napier's discipline approach. Mullen was more laid back and they liked it. I especially hate to see the departure of offensive lineman. To me, attitude is a big part of playing team sports. So, when you leave and give kudos to a loser coach first, that tells me you did not support the current coach. We pissed and moaned about the poor on-the-field performance in 2022, and now some are not understanding why player's are leaving? I say, "Good riddance! I remember well when Coach Graves stepped down and Dickey came in, John Reeves copped a bad attitude and played subpar. What's with the stupid immaturity of player's, if a coach goes, you play for the next coach. End of story.
Players that want to be coached hard are a positive to me. I mean, it does take certain approaches for many players to be successful but the coaches tgat are good longterm don’t put up with shit. There may be different types of leniency that it takes but the coach still has to have absolute authority and it be respected by his players. “Fit” I guess would be a decent term. Hard worker may fit Napier.
Absolutely, and it amazes me that some want to not only blame Napier for the losing season, but player descent through the Portal as well. I'm not saying that all entering the Portal from UF are disgruntled; for some it may be playing time or money. I do wonder how many players, now leaving, never bought-in to Napier's system? My guess would be many, so why are some so shocked?
When you read some of the threads on NIL, the collective and UF admin, it is easy to see the better players saying why not me. Football is a business to them, the portal and NIL magnify it. Mercenaries vs School spirit?
Yeah but college football has just shifted to this “free agency” model. I think it is going to end up ruining the sport. And FWIW I’m glad TCU is in. If they gave it to Bama it would have been BS.
And if a player has been at a school for two years and they’re not in the two deep, they need playing time. They could be a player like Trask that is just getting passed over and never had their opportunity to prove themselves. Starters hitting the portal is something different.
I somewhat agree but, the best four teams are supposed to be in and I believe BAma would be TCU no problem
Great analogy. The whining part is a stretch, though. Lament is the better description. I fully realize it is what it is. Doesn't mean I have to like it though, 'cuz... I hate it. Since it's all only entertainment, hating it is king of a a bad thing to me. It's up to all of us to decide whether this entertainment is as much fun as it was. As always, we vote with our wallets.
When we stop showing up in the stands and turning on the TVs, we will get a reaction. It’s only for teams have people in the stadium, we will get a reaction. But if we can continue selling out the swamp and going five and seven nothing will change
Despite all his tenacity and athleticism, when Cox was booted, the DE position improved. Regarding the loss of 3 OL from this year's team on a roster that normally carries 16 OL players, Sale and Darlington coached OT Max Mitchell into being a 4th round draft pick, playing extensively with the Jets in year 1. OG Torrence is an animal, and will be drafted very highly. Then they also had C/OG AJ Gille who after his first year playing got on the Outland Trophy Watchlist with only 16 other OG in the country. That's an incredibly high hit rate, getting 2 star and 3 star players. These OL coaches know how to make raw underrated talent into draft picks, so we shouldn't have a lot of alarm about the loss of some guys in a transition year. Let them go if they want. Every year an OL is typically turning over 2 starters and needing to get 4 new guys ready to play. We need 5 guys to step up this year and will likely get help from the portal for at least 1 of those.
Sure many of the non productive players may not have the stats but they became our second best players or third best players. Backup guys...many because they were younger and not developed. Guys who could have blossomed in the next year as a few eventually do or guys who come in for an injured starter. Now those guys...the Tyron Hoppers of our team have moved on to help the Mizzous of the NCAA and we have a vacancy that I haven't seen filled with any other transfer portal guy and the guy who has been just recruited is now a true freshman and not ready. Dont kid yourself were in a heap right now and in my opinion a high profile portal QB (read not Mertz) is the only way to bring a few guys in to take a ride with a guy like Macall or Hartman who can actually scare a defense and give us a fighting chance. As someone else pointed out it isn't just second stringers it was our whole starting offensive line which would have been our strongest position next year...poof...out of here. Thats gonna hurt big time and additionally there will be a reputation factor that something is off at UF. Unfortunately what were setting up next year just doesn't look dedicated to a winning program, at least in the short term which makes a big dent in the perception of the following year. I ABSOLUTELY hope Im wrong but after a decade of crap football at a flagship university I dont see things getting better for 2 plus years and honestly with the lack of patience with our fans I doubt BN survives to see what he is attempting to do.
The players should have had this model all along. One year scholarships should all a player to seek out a new offer every year. If the transfer rule isn't changed to match, I expect a lawsuit to be filed soon. At the beginning of the year, the rules committee voted down unlimited transfers. It should pass in the next yr or 2. And it won't ruin the sport, it will just be different. Players moved in and out every 3 yrs or so anyway due to transfers or graduation etc Now they may move around more often, that's it. Coaches will have to manage their rosters better that is all. I expect it to settle down once the newness wears off.
We need to remember that we used to have a part-time recruiter and lackadaisical disciplinarian who seemed content with team penalties. And we were not very good on team penalties: College Football Stats - College FB Team Penalties per Game | TeamRankings.com College Football Stats - College FB Team Penalties per Game | TeamRankings.com College Football Stats - College FB Team Penalties per Game | TeamRankings.com College Football Stats - College FB Team Penalties per Game | TeamRankings.com College Football Stats - College FB Team Penalties per Game | TeamRankings.com
High expectations next year. Billy went 7-7 with ULL Year 1 and followed that up with 11-3 in Year 2.
UF is in the situation it is in now not because we fired coach x, but because we hired coach x in the first place. It didn't help that the UAA decided to use the budget ax on the football program for the last dozen years so other sports could be funded first.
Yeah they bought into Muschamp too until they looked up and saw the stands half empty (or almost full of FSU gear).
