There is an English teacher (Vicki Baggett) in Pensacola who has tried to ban 150 books from school libraries in Escambia County. Here are some highlights from her crazy musings: Meet the Florida English teacher trying to ban 150 books from school libraries She is seeking to ban When Wilma Rudolph Played Basketball, a children's book about U.S. Olympian Wilma Rudolph that covers her experiences overcoming polio as a child and growing up in the Jim Crow South, because the book is "race-baiting." Baggett claims the book is "very anti-white." The most telling quote: "Baggett didn't dispute the book was accurate but insisted it would make white students 'feel uncomfortable' because 'they are being white-shamed.' She said the book was inappropriate because 'not all whites treated blacks like this.' Baggett added that 'not all blacks do drug crimes, like a lot of people say.'" You will not be surprised to find out that Baggett is a proud member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. She sought to ban The Perks of Being a Wallflower because it's "pornographic." After the school district rejected her challenge, the Escambia County School Board overruled them and banned the book from all school libraries. She is seeking to ban And Tango Makes Three, a children's book telling the true story of how two male penguins in the Central Park Zoo built a nest together and raised a baby penguin, because the book is promoting the "LGBTQ agenda using penguins." Another telling quote from her: "'I think what would happen is a second grader would read this book, and that idea would pop into the second grader's mind… that these are two people of the same sex that love each other.' Baggett said that was 'perfectly fine for some families' but 'perfectly not fine for others.'" Baggett is also claiming that books like The Perks of Being a Wallflower are "child pornography" and is seeking to identify the employees who purchased those books because she wants them prosecuted under Florida's child pornography laws. As much as I'd like to just mock this crazy woman, her attempts to ban these books are working. Because of her challenges, well over 100 books are currently under restriction indefinitely. It is unclear when the school district/board will get around to ruling on those challenges and either removing the restrictions or permanently banning the books. I'll simply say that this woman has no business being involved in educating anybody's children. This is also the danger of a political movement built on vilifying public education and books.
Other than the fact that this lady is an idiot, where did those two male penguins get the baby penguin to raise? These are the questions.

Some serious anti society, christian nazi types in P-Cola. Look no further than the Pensacola Christian secondary and college schools for reference. Bob Jones "wannabes". Don't think about setting up a womens clinic there either, they will shoot you in that part of the country. Then there is the maga navy............. SMH. I always enjoy watching the maga navy having to recover two or three vessels that get (sunk) every time they make an appearance. Apparantly those people are as rude and stupid on the water as they are on land.
I’ve heard that DeSantis is a freedom fighter & that Fla is the land of liberty so she should get squashed.
I have a different take on Ron. I find him to be quite the "effective" politician. I do not believe in any of his schtick of course. Just another GOP operative who found that his avenue to fame and success in politics is "Social Engineering" - By that I mean legislating behavior: No Sex will be tolerated All behaviors must conform to the "King-James" right wing "morality police". Environment? What Environment? Red tide - Thats just a contractor that spilled a red cherry cola in the Gulf. The guy could actually do some good because he certainly knows how to manipulate his base to his bidding, to bad that agenda does little or nothing for the needs of the populace or the environment.
"Freedom from not having optional reading books in your library that some authority figure thinks may make you feel awkward is REAL freedom," I say as I hide my doobie while I smoke on my back porch
The perks of being a wallflower has gay sex as a central theme, an 11 year old girl sexually abused by a man she should be able to trust, a dude sexually abused by his aunt, among other things. It’s got some seriously adult themes it in, I can at least see a point on that one. Same with the penguin thing. The Wilma Rudolph book is just bizarre.
Guys a hater, thats for sure. I would LMAO if Disney announced they were moving their entire fraud show to Mississippi or some such. Watch DeSantis backpedal faster than Putin should that happen. Not that I have ANY sympathy for Disney. One of the WORST corporate entities in America.
Yes, indeed. The sexual lifestyles of Americans and how the Gov't and courts have handled it has been incredibly bad IMO. While I fully recognize that millions of Americans (millions) do not have traditional "heterosexeual" lifestyles and are deserving of NOT being HARRASSED, conversely those that support those lifestyles should be intelligent enough to realize that a nation CANNOT force feed alternative lifestyles on a populace that is uncomfortable with that reality. Straight and Alternative lifestyle folks should recognize meeting "half-way" on this issue instead of using the Congress or the Courts to FORCE behaviors on either side.
I remember having this discussion, and was assured if they were going to ban books that make any sort of reference to sexual orientation, then they’d also have to ban books that reference any male-female relationships, like mother/father, husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc…
Are kids forced to read these books, or are they just in a library where kids can read them if they want to?
