People buy in or not. Attrition is also pretty common in college ball. But as many have alluded to, Napier is getting his guys, he's recruiting really well, eventually his recruits will be the backbone of the roster, and that will be good. I hope in the short term that includes a decent assemblage of portal players. I'm pretty sure they're not asking us for pointers, although, they could be reading these threads. Ha! So in reality, all we can do is comment and watch it unfold with some consternation; gleefully, of course. Go Gators.
We can recruit top 5 classes every year but if 20 plus of your 3rd and 4th year players bail out it wont matter. Quite frankly were in a heap of trouble right now with so many defections and we aren't in any position to say good riddance since we really dont have much to replace them as of now. I guess very damn immediate playing time (which we have in abundance) might be a good motivator for some kids but it seems like our administration is thrilled with paying 200 support staff but damn sure not our recruits.
I hear you, but adapt or die. NIL is like the gunpowder revolution in warfare. One can whine and lament that real war needs to be fought man to man with melee weapons, but when the armies all around you are loading up with muskets and artillery you had better worry more about keeping up than holding with tradition. Bama got schooled last year in the new reality of NIL, and yeah Saban whined about it publicly, but I noticed they haven’t wasted any time catching up.
I m not saying all the transfers were pushed out, but do you think we could have signed 20 ha kids without transfers? I think you should look at production lost to the transfer portal. You will be surprised at how little went out.
This class is better than any of Mullens classes in my opinion. The average player rating of 92.34 tells us that. Mullens classes never crossed 91.
You might be right as right can be (I certainly hope so), but so far the class standings don’t suggest a huge difference. Mullen failed to wow, and I am not yet wowed by Napier. That’s not the way I want it, but it is the way that it is presently.
I have not been bothered by all of the Portalet entries. Gator Nation is allowing emotions to overrule their cognitive processes. We are losing players who have not been team players. We are not hearing the whole story, and I'm not pretending to be in the know, but something has been very wrong! Could this article explain why? And this media source is sometimes concerning for me, but is there something here? Florida football: Chris McClellan drops hints on why guys are in the transfer portal
Not one fan should be happy with 12th Rest of your post - no need to reply pick a fight with someone else?
His next pick ups in the portal will be huge. Agree with you about building and how important it is for the foundation to have successful high school recruiting classes. In Norville‘s case I think it was sink or swim time. His transfers basically saved his job. If you think about it, his top defensive players at each level were from portal. Same with offense. Billy will be fine just hope he can grab a few starters In his portal pickups. I do believe he will have to win 7-8 this year to show progress. With the portal and what it offers shouldn’t take 3-4 years to show improvement. I know with Billy it’s more than that as he sees the big picture and competing for titles but some progress needs to be shown. Evaluates kids very well w regards to upside and how they’ll project out 3-4 years out.
Tarquin White Johnson McMillon I realize that’s just 4 but 4 I’d prefer to not have lost. Just my opinion.
That is how the real world works. players/ workers etc... gain experience and training at a smaller company and then cash in your chip and go big time. Big companies poach talent in every area of business. If the Mizzou's of the world started rising up and winning regularly people would lose their minds. Look how people react to UK's recent success. Fans don't want parity and fairness, they want their team on top and winning. They want the big guys to falter and their team to move up. And at the same time keeping the little guys down and know their role. Just look at the current CFP. People bitching that the usual suspects are there again and at the same time whining that a small TCU got in and doesn't deserve to be there.
As long as BN can fill up the roster with players who want to put in the time to be great players.. the Gators will be fine. It might takes a little longer to replace some.
It will be interesting to see if players who want freedom of actions, actively avoid UF due to expectations from Coach. Just another point in the age of NIL. Mentioned before, but I remember talking to a SOW star player in the 90’s after he was gone (NFL). I asked him why he didn’t go to UF. He said he wouldn’t have played, Spurrier would have benched me for off field stuff, Bowden didn’t care. The portal enables this dynamic, for good or bad
If they’re trying to see their worth elsewhere then see ya. If they’re not willing to do what coaches want then see ya. Need talent but talent that doesn’t want to be here is detrimental and can go.
