Agree. College football will implode from within from the Free For All that NIL and the unlimited transfer portal have created and done to the sport.. People will look back at this and say: “How could they have been that stupid”. The players were stupid for supporting this. Most college players will never see a buck from NIL. The NCAA and universities were stupid for not getting in front of it and putting in some necessary structure. The boosters who have been financially supporting this will find out that their money would have been better spent staying in a checking account at the local bank. I have been a Gator fan since Reeves was throwing to Alvarez. Been a season ticket holder for 34 years. My youngest has two seasons left at UF and then I will not renew. It has been a great ride but now it’s just not that enjoyable any more
The problem isn’t NIL. It’s pay to play. If a player with a million Twitter followers can monetize with some company then go for it. Just imagine if this set up was happening in other leagues. Say the Waltons basically told the top free agent to join the Broncos for league minimum but they’ll get him a $50m per year sponsorship deal from Walmart.
Your post sounds like my feelings on the entire thing. Became a Gator when my father took me to the 1969 Gator Bowl (hence my name) where we defeated SEC Champ Tennessee. It is just not that enjoyable anymore for me as well. Has nothing to do with the losing, lord knows I have watched plenty of that over the past 53 years. This pay for play has diminished much of the magic and thrill of amateur athletics, at least for me.
You know, it's not the paying that bothers me. It's that the fans seem to be the only ones who care. I know the players and the coaches want to win, but it all feels mercenary these days. There doesn't seem to be a lot of love of school or love of program of tradition. Just a love of winning, and what that winning means for them. More prestige. More money. More opportunities. Fans love the program, and all this does is reinforce that the program does not love them back.
Shoulda told that years ago before they stuck their head in. Looks too much like no money for work and even if there is an argument there, much more diligence should have been arbitrated.

I’m thinking of big 10 teams start losing recruits and starters to higher paying programs. If Michigan and Ohio State start losing kids that would move needle. As long as Bama, Clemson, Mich, Ohio State, UGA make expanded playoff, no changes will occur.
Apologies but the game isn't about the game anymore. It just seems to be a temporary action from kids that requires no dedication just a positioning for the NFL. Gators win or Gators lose is out of our control when recruited players have no desire to be a link in a team. It is pretty much over for me. I watch and turn off. No buying of Gator gear. No waking up caring why or what happened. AR showed exactly what is normal.
You’re totally incorrect Kilgore. We aren’t losing our minds. We are losing the sport and game we love. Maybe a handful of players at each school will benefit from NIL, but for the most part, 90+% of the players aren’t benefitting one damn bit from it. The beauty of the college game has always been the effort and passion of the players. Our best teams have been loaded top to bottom with players who WANTED TO BE GATORS. Not 5 players making big money and bringing their cancerous, me first attitudes into the locker room. This only creates a divide that I’m not sure that 18-22 year olds are mature enough to accept, set aside, and pursue their goals in spite of the divide. We are not doing these kids any favors by letting this destroy the game.
You are missing my point. It is not about women playing football. It is about how some college admins and Athletic Departments can deemphasize the programs. I am referring to budget cuts, scholarships, and NIL's.

To answer the question, NIL won’t go away. The Genie has been let out of the lamp and we can’t shove him back in. What can make it dicey will be a kid coming out and saying I was promised “X” and I have yet to see that promise fulfilled. That could make things interesting, for sure. NIL is here to stay but the NCAA should revert back to the old transfer rules of sitting out a year. The would need to actively bust schools who are tampering with players. I wouldn’t hold my breath on it. As usual the NCAA will punish some insignificant school for the sins of the powerhouse schools.
NIL may not go away. However, there is a chance that some universities/colleges (big and small) will divert money and attention to athletic programs. However, since we are talking about the future of college sports (in general), we need to keep an eye on how DIE will be an impact. There are many factors that influence the priority that college athletics is given. The two main ones today is Budgeting and DIE.

Citizens right to work prob won’t be changed. Make the kids employed and under contract. If enough schools wanted tgat it would happ. I think the big boys like their little rigged system.
Bowl season is absolutely horrible right now. Unless you are in the playoffs, the majority of the players don’t even make an effort for the bowl. Half of the players don’t suit up and the other half are checked out. School pride is completely gone and has been replaced by NIL contracts.
Yeah, an 18 year old given a million dollars to play football is in control of his life. And what about the 90% who don’t get a thing? The current system is horrendous.
