ok, so who would take Tarquin snd White’s spot? Remember White was 2nd Team all SEC. Trying to decide who will start for Tarquin? Can’t say Barber as he’s the only other tackle we have. That’s the problem with losing Tarquin we have nobody behind him ready to start. Significant difference unless we grab kid from WKU and not even sure we have a chance. Anybody taking White’s spot would not be at White’s level.
Don’t mind Safeties departing. They were always in a different time zone or zip code than the WR. Never broke up any passes. Interceptions were overthrown balls. Billy needs his own kids and to jettison the bad culture that existed of losing football
Scene from the Gators Safety's room in the off season..... You can't help but laugh about it until things get better.
Agreed...he was rarely in the zip code of the WR catching the ball and missed so many tackles that you needed a calculator to add them all up. If nothing else, you need Safeties that are sure tacklers.
That’s what the word “Safety” is supposed to mean in the positions name : He is the fail-safe guy that never misses a tackle. Our safety’s (coached by Toney) were even worse than last year and imo, the worst in Gator history.
College kids want to have fun (and there is nothing more fun than winning) not be in boot camp year round.
The only one that I thought had some potential was Torrence. I would rather see the true freshmen get snaps rather than Dean and Johnson.
Not that he was bad….maybe the coaches told him tgat he will share time with someone and this being a money year for Johnson he wanted a starting slot
The exodus of players and unwillingness to be team players is a reflection on the past coaching staff: not Billy Napier. It’s a shame the writers from sites like Saturday Down South can’t make that abundantly clear rather than write articles trying to characterize our situation as dire and use that all too common catch phrase “dumpster fire”. Napier is cleaning house. Taking over a business, athletic team or most anything else that is failing requires getting rid of the problem. Those who try to change or live with the problem are doomed to failure. That said, I don’t blame the players. It’s the coaches who were incapable of instilling good work ethics and team concepts to the players In their charge.
For the writers (tv guys) to tell the story, they would have to point fingers at the Mullen, system is too circularly inbred and convinced of his whispering status. A ton of players leaving can be taking control or losing control. Given Mullen had no control, we all assume it is the former.
Okay...lets assume this is all true. Then to have any chance of finishing at or above .500 in 2023 will be to get top players in the portal that fit that "culture." To evaluate that will take visits and time spent with these players....and as we've seen the really valuable players currently in the portal are already gone. Where is the time to evaluate culture fit? This isn't HS recruiting where you have that luxury. A manager coming into a situation where he believes he must change the culture must manage it in such a way that doesn't cause the company to tank. Anyone that doesn't, won't be with the company very long and isn't much of a manager. Will Gator fans accept really falling off the cliff in 2023 and then giving Billy time to build it back his way? I think the answer is no.
