Thanks for the insight. Explains why they are recruiting so well. I agree it is not the model to emulate.

Wouldn’t hurt anything if our broke ass fans would quit harassing the billionaire either. He loves the attention.

Good to see the AD beginning to be signaled out as the main issue with UF athletics. Stricklin has made a number of very poor hires in the past few years and the jury is out on whether Napier is going to cut it in the big time. If his forte is recruiting- well he's doing ok but not great -- ranked 12 or 13 depending on the source and is 33 in transfer portal gets.
On a related note- anyone who could stand to watch the Gators basketball game last night has to recognize the Stricklin's latest hire looks completely over his head.
Can't wait for opening day of the baseball season as there is one sport where I'm expecting big things and a trip to Omaha.
    Go Sully and Go Gators.

I wonder how many “Top 5 Public Univ” t-shirts we have to sell in order to make up for all the lost revenue from a bad football and basketball program

It is starting to become more and more evident.

The Newbauer and Amato fiascos hsve brought the spotlight on him. Every UF coach that is currently being successful (by UF standards) was a Foley hire. New women’s hoops coach seems to be doing good but that was a desperation internal hire after the Newbauer scandal.

Stricklin seems like a great fundraiser and charmer. It’s the “athletic” part of Athletic Director that I believe he is below-average at.

Completely irrelevant though, as he goes as Napier goes. I can guarantee you that it Napier fails, the big-time boosters and BullGators will not allow Stricklin another bite of the apple. He will be gone at that point.

It’s been years since I read it but someone was saying how most AD’s are glorified fund raisers which is why they all get taken to the woodshed by coaches’ agents and these ridiculous buyouts. They have no idea how to negotiate and most of the time don’t realize they’re only negotiating against themselves.

It doesn't take a genius nor do you need any coaching experience to know that running play action on third and forever when you have less than 30 yards rushing isn't going to fool anyone.

    Granted, Strickland has been underwhelmng.

Don't forget womens basketball last year, that was another black eye.

That is why a lot of Universities have to hire consulting firms to help navigate the coaching search and hiring process. That expertise is no longer available in-house. Even then, the agents still dictate the terms of the deal. If you keep making the wrong choices as an AD, it just becomes a deeper hole over time

South Carolina hired a search firm and ended up with Will Muschamp.

I will pass on that option.

Foley did have the athletic part down. He completely mismanaged the Zook and Muschamp hires but overall in 25 years he made UF flourish.

Stricklin is showing he can do nothing more than fundraise and glad-hand donors.

Foley also is responsible for Shark Boy and Mike White.

I'll give him credit for Meyer, Billy, Sully and Tim Walton. He had some notable
    failed hires also.

Argeee but there is one on the list (I won’t mention names) who has been starting off and on for 3 years who will not be missed as far as on field mistakes.

Tall order to go portal, and I can be done. See Riley, Kelly
Don’t look at what we did in the portal last year (they guys that came with really don’t prove you can get good portal guys).

I heard all year this was gonna be a top 5 class seems like it fell short thus far, yeah I know there are some guys out there still but how often does a team move up much after ESD?

Even money half these guys that got drawn to UM for the big check will play a year and portal out after they get their big check…

I’ll give Foley the pass on Zook. SOS literally quit in early Jan and Foley had no idea, he had to get someone there.

In retrospect Zook didn’t do that bad they record wasn’t terrible and he was stuck with following a legend.

Not every coach wins a NC. The ones you pointed out all did.

Overall Foley did an amazing job in my opinion. Not an easy position but he brought us plenty of prominence in the big sports.

Until 2010 or so, there was no better AD in the country than Jeremy. I think he got complacent and thought he knew better than everyone else towards the end and made some bad reaches. I'd take him back though, in a heartbeat, compared to the one who replaced him.

Zook set us up for future championships with his outstanding recruiting. If he could have found a way to get the guys to play hard for him every week, he would have had a long tenure here.

Seems like I recall the O was very inconsistent. I remember losing to Ole miss at home where we only scored 3 in the second half.(I think)

Zook coached teams never seemed to be able to get over the hump and string together a bunch of consecutive wins.

They would look like world beaters one week (at UT in 2002) and then lose to Ole Miss two weeks later.

Zook's defenses were notorious for 4th quarter collapses as well.
