I think those times have drastically changed with NIL. We are entering in to the NFL minor league here.
I agree but there are programs out there that don't seem to suffer from it as much as we do (like the one we just played). Maybe they do and I just don't follow those programs. Has anyone heard of a couple dozen FSU players quitting on their team for some meaningless bowl game.
I saw some positive things from him, but he has a lot of work to do. If Rashada comes in 25 pounds heavier, it is going to be a real fight for the starting position. I think you have to consider bringing in a quality transfer.
Yeah I’m coming around to that realization. It just hit me wrong, after watching a total meltdown in every single facet of our game — not including the heroic pressure packed FG to save our streak — that anyone would suggest we’re one portal QB away from being a championship contender next year. To me it’s ridiculous that after witnessing that debacle in Vegas, people are still trying to force things to miraculously improve next season. That is unrealistic as hell and also out of touch with the monumental task facing Napier. I also think it’s totally unfair for people to kick Miller to the curb when he had only one chance to play a game on zero experience with absolutely everything stacked against him. Some of the folks in here are not only clueless, they’re downright cruel. I’d sure hate to be one of their kids. All that said, bring in McCall as long as it doesn’t create any concerns with the two 5* QBs we already have committed.
You can say it man. The guy looked like a mid-major talent. Luke Del Rio-ish. I’m cool with him staying here for a camp arm but we 10000% need a transfer QB
Miller doesn’t look like the guy to me either but that was a stacked deck. I wouldn’t be at all surprised given a spring and fall to prepare with his guys that he was moderately successful. . If I were h The only difference is, if this were minor league NFL the rosters would not be all jacked up and moving around everywhere
I am pretty sure you don’t boost your stock by sandbagging The more simpler answer is BN doesn’t call many designer QB runs (see his history), teams were key on the edge limiting the ZR keeper (see the guy in his face every roll out), we have a bad Wr corp (massive drops), AR struggles in a hard back to the action play action play, and was also inaccurate.
Unfortunately have to agree. Heard it first-hand from a parent of a starter during Tebow era - our fans apparently are just brutal - and that's when we were winning.... Not sure if it comes from Bull gators who have access and $$$, or the fan base as a whole, but the perception from players/families is (was) definitely there.
I wouldn't totally rely on Rashada, hence the need for a transfer portal QB, but i also wouldn't discount him from starting day 1. I don't get his measurables as perceived to limit him. He is plenty big enough. I'm not saying he is Bryce Young in talent, but he may be? Bryce is only 5-11 190 and he started for Bama day 1. So we shouldn't discount Rashada. CBN inherited a QB room with an inexperienced AR, and a bunch of other QB's who were mediocre underclassmen with practically no experience. So now he is in the process of re-stocking our QB room and our WR group ( which if we are generous we could call that group he inherited at the beginning of his tenure mediocre at best ) End of 2023 season we will have a better idea of the direction of our team. I don't expect miracles, but would like to see improvement on D and O performance.
Good points. I’ll only point out that you could put me under center behind Bama’s 5* o-line and I wouldn’t get hurt. Rashada isn’t going to get the protection Bryce Young has enjoyed.
Bama's OL actually struggled somewhat this year compared to the past. That plus WR's that weren't up to usual Bama standards and a terrible defensive secondary were reasons they had a down year by Bama standards.
Mertz is definitely not the answer in my opinion we wasted a roster spot even offering him. If Mertz is the starter when we play UTAH in September then this team has a lot of problems. Because Mertz was dreadful at Wisky!!! I'll go out on a Limb here if Mertz is our starting QB in 2023. Will be at best a 5-7 team at best!!!! @ Worst 3-9
The mention of Jordan Travis is a reminder to us all who reach dire, hot-take conclusions based on little evidence...sometimes a hot take is in fact a hot take. And sometimes, patience pays off. Jordan Travis in 2020 was ...not good. We all had a good chuckle about FSU's QB misery continuing. He got better last year. And lo and behold, who is this year's ACC QBR leader? Jordan Travis, currently #7 in the country. And he's coming back for his senior year. Same for Mike Norvell. First two seasons, just colossal humiliating games, one after another. Same OL problem as always. Chatter about how another coach bust was going to drain the FSU bank account. This year: FSU ends up basically #2 in the ACC. Some times the first story isn't the final story. Some times....patience and gradual improvement work out.
You honestly think that either Miller is the answer or that Rashada will be the answer (for Utah) day one ?
I do think the Jack miller we will see next fall will be dramatically better than the bowl game version. The kid had 7 days practice to get ready to play QB against a very good defense of a 9-3 team. He basically missed all fall due to injury. This spring and summer he will be seriously competing for the starting job because AR is not there. I will judge him then
Mertz is coming in as well as Rashada for the spring. If Miller can’t beat them both out, I could see Miller hitting the portal again. I could see Mertz being stop gap until Rashada can handle running Billy’s O.
