Ukraine update: 100,000 Russian soldiers have died. Bakhmut stands Daily update. Looks like things have been quieter around bakhmut. Not much changing anywhere else. Pitched battles over small spaces all over the Donetsk region.
I’m skeptical about the claim of 100,000 dead. But even half of that, one quarter of that, would be a staggering number.
Putin just blinked. Called the war a “war”, instead of a special military operation. That could land anyone else in Russia a 7 year prison sentence.
yeah daily Kos is not gospel. It just summarizes what other people are reporting. And it’s not just about dead right? But how many more are long term out of service? And the confirmed equipment losses are huge on their own. Will be interesting to account when it is all said and done.
I agree. It’s mind blowing when you compare the carnage to other 21st Century or late 20th Century conflicts. If anyone had predicted these kinds of numbers this time last year, that Ukraine would hold its own, or even that the war would go on for this amount of time, I would have told them they have no idea what they’re talking about and they should stick to their professions.
That article does not seem to attach the significance of the word “war.” I wonder if that’s because it did not capture the significance or if it’s a translation thing and Putin did not use the precise, legal term under Russian law.
That was the nature of the discussion I didn’t catch the entire discussion but they were running with that angle…
Xi bringing the heat? China's Xi Jinping 'demanded written explanation from Putin on how he planned to end war in Ukraine' | Daily Mail Online Chinese premier Xi Jinping has demanded a letter from Vladimir Putin detailing how and when he will end the war with Ukraine, it has been claimed. The Russian despot was allegedly asked the exact dates he intends to end the bloody conflict by his Chinese counterpart, who threatened to halt communications unless he received a response. Telegram channel General SVR, which has alleged links to the Kremlin and Putin's bodyguards, said Dmitry Medvedev was dispatched yesterday to Beijing 'as a postman' to deliver his leader's response to Xi. ........................... The claims about the letter indicate that Putin is facing strong pressure from China to end a war that is causing grave ructions in the world economy. General SVR said Xi had 'demanded from Putin a detailed plan with dates, where the Russian president was to write how and when he was going to end the war'.
If China is losing patience, nothing but goodness in that for Ukraine. We should crank up the heat on Russia even further.
Putin said he wants the 'war' in Ukraine to end, acknowledging for the first time it's more than just a 'special military operation' (msn.com) Putin on Thursday publicly acknowledged the situation as a "war" for the first time since the invasion was launched in February. "Our goal is not to spin this flywheel of a military conflict, but, on the contrary, to end this war," Putin said during a news conference Thursday. "This is what we are striving for." When the invasion began and in the months since, Putin has framed it as a "special military operation." At various times he has said the "operation" was a defensive act against the eastward expansion of NATO or an effort to liberate ethnic Russians from "Nazis" in Ukraine.
Why wait this long for that? It’s a lot harder to appeal to patriotism after your tens of thousands of dead soldiers the poorer in an unnecessary war of conquest.
Russian politician files legal challenge over Putin's reference to Ukraine "war" This person should avoid windows, stairways, balconies etc.
