Looking at Banks ht/wt, I don't see a DT at all. He appears to be an edge at that weight. Also, how much did he play at Louisville? I haven't seen that discussed much.
But w/o a transfer at OL we saw next year's OL in Vegas. They paved the way for all of 7 yards gained in 2 quarters of play and had our rookie QB running for his life. Unless some of the RFr is the answer or a transfer that can play shows up its not comforting.
At DT, i'm not too concerned with that position as y'all are. We're set there as far as what we want to do in 2023: Watson Lyons McClellon Banks Norman Humprhries (more of a body than anything) One more DT there will be fine because only Watson will be draft eligible after this year and he's not an NFL player as of now (may never be tbh). The staff should and better prioritize DT in the 2024 class cause after NEXT year that's when things get dicey going into 2024 and beyond. Same with LB...if Mitchell is the only LB we get in the portal, i'm cool with that. I think a combo of him along with Scooby, Wingo, and James are fine. It's not like you play 8 different LB's a game anyways.
Not me...the only guy on your list that appears to have potential is James. Wingo and Williams are just guys. Can't tell what we have in Mitchell, he couldn't keep the starter job at OSU, but that still might make him better than any LB on our roster. The true freshman is an unknown at this point.
Wingo to me looked fine against OSU in the bowl game. They played to his strengths as far as sending him to rush the QB and he looked like he was willing to mix it up too on the run. I'm not saying he's the next Antonio Morrison, but i'm ok with him. Scooby is the one that does worry me. He's still lost out there
Scooby is lost and to be kind to Wingo, he doesn't have the footspeed to be a sideline to sideline MLB. Unless another portal player shows up, Mitchell is most likely the Day 1 starter at MLB. Depth behind him and James is pretty sketch though. Lets hope the Frosh coming in is a unicorn.
You forgot DT. This is our biggest need. Caleb Banks Cam’ron Harris rumored but not official. One more? we have not recruited enough DT’s over the years and Billy got 0 out of the portal last year so 2-3 this year are a must. McClellan Watson Lyons Norman Need to add at least 2 if not 3 to this group. I can see Watson and McClellan starting and giving us 35 snaps a piece. Harris could be really good and gives us a true run stuffed at 340. Banks huge upside but 15 snaps a game is really all we need from him.
Yall are ok with only 3 RBs on the roster? One of them being a true frosh who probably won't know how to pass protect? We got relatively lucky on the injury front last season so we shouldn't count on that happening again. RB is my #1 priority for the portal!
Agreed I was hoping for 5 scholarship RBs… originally Fletcher + Treyuan + a portal guy … it’s a big need spot … fortunately a position were treyuan can contribute immediately as freshmen with too much difficulty… Should definitely be some good enough or better than that guys available after bowl season ..
Yes, that was covered a bit on another thread. It's hard to gauge too much from his previous play, as he has not played much. I mentioned many times during the season that we didn't have a bonafide ALL SEC player on the roster (besides Big O), so I REALLY wanted to see some transfers with that level of ability. I am afraid we have not see that, yet.
I think their poor play was a little more involved than that, but I totally understand your concern. I don't share it in, but I get it. **EDIT: Just announced that Tarquin is transferring. So, that changed my position...we need to take 1.
He is now over 300 lbs. If he can be an edge at that weight, he is something special and will start day one. But he isn't an edge at that weight, so he will be depth at both tackle spots.
It just never seems to work out for us to recruit a player from one position with plans for another one once they get here
