The knock on Dan Mullen at Florida was his lazy recruiting. It's worth noting that outside of his first transition class, his average class rank was about 9. So far, Billy Napier is not recruiting as well as Mullen, nor does he have the X's and O's acumen of Mullen. This is concerning, given that Napier and his army were hired to fix the recruiting issues. It's a talent acquisition business as he says.

Dan Mullen's recruiting class rankings per 247:
    2018: 14
    2019: 9
    2020: 7
    2021: 12

    Billy Napier:
    2022: 17
2023: 13 (so far... could go up a little)

Lazy analysis. Mullins classes had non qualifiers….evaluation was sketchy and lower average ranking

How about the average player rating comparison?

Also, can't really blame Napier for 2022. Mullen's recruiting was HORRIFIC that year before he was canned.

I think Napier will do just fine in recruiting for the Gators.

The difference really isn’t close. Do more homework. It’s a horrible comparison.

At this point it’s hard to call this type of criticism “lazy”. It’s deliberate. Anybody who gives a damn about recruiting knows why this is a horrible analysis and it’s frankly embarrassing. Mullen’s methods to skewing class results have been discussed SO many times, good lord

How many of the top rated players in the 2019, 2020 & 2021 classes are still on Florida's current roster?

Please.... we've seen the fruits of Mullen's labor these last 2 seasons. Try again.

    1. ESPN has the class ranked at #9 so there’s that
    2. Mullen may have been good at the Xs and Os but his evaluation of talent was downright awful.
    3. Stars mean very little because these outlets never evaluate what’s between the ears.
    4. Coaching matters and while there are some assistants I’m not real key on, I believe in CBN and will give him the benefit with his staff picks as he works through this horrible mess.

Another poster looking for creative ways to bash the Coach and/or program.

Very misleading as many of you have pointed out but let's leave it for now.

I don't think it's unfair to compare this year's class to Mullen's last.

Looks like Napier will be about 3 slots ahead and finish 5th in the SEC opposed to 6th.

It does seem close at a glance, but Napier is more top heavy when u look at players rated above 90 compared to Mullen. I think it's like 14 vs. 8.

    Numbers don’t tell the tale.

Recruits need to enroll, develop, and produce.

I am hoping that since Napier is so big on the culture thing he only takes kids he know will buy in and be team players. I am hoping that 90% of this class is around for the 2025 season. If so that will be a very solid foundation for Napier.

As I mentioned to another member, this was an excellent foundational class given the state of the rebuild. Now Coach and staff more fully turn their attention to the portal. We're not in "normal land" for a number of reasons. Let's see how it all plays out.

I disagree bacon with most of these responses. This level of recruiting isn't going to get it done against the top teams in the SEC. Napier got outcoached by Heupel, Kirby, and Kelly this season. Now he's been out-recruited by them as well. He and his staff will need to do better going forward. We should have signed closer to 30 players to fill our needs. I'm hoping he can fix some of it in the transfer portal, but a lot of the good players have already been snatched up. The QB from Wisconsin is not a great get.

I am hopeful that he will at least hire a good OC this off-season. And optimistic that his recruiting will improve with better results on the field.
