that recruiting will fix our deficiencies. Then I check our '22/'23 classes. Let me guess, the portal? How far we've fallen. Even if you include the Kruger era. Very unattractive basketball.
I don’t know how much more I can take of this product that Florida is putting out in the main 2 sports.
Unless we figure out how to turn it around we could be looking at losing seasons in football and basketball this academic year. As happy as I was to see Mullen and White leave, we may have downgraded. Time will tell.
It's going to be hard to breakthrough for multiple elite-level recruits these first few seasons, especially since we went with hiring a mid-major coach. Player development, in-game coaching, and the portal are going to be Coach Golden's best friends these next few seasons.
But you look at the roster and you see talent. I don't believe at all that OU has better talent after watching the game. We just can't get our talent to win.
The one thing I'm confident about is that Todd Golden is a smart man and very motivated. This is a learning experience for him. He may not figure it out as quickly as most of us want, but I'm confident he'll get there eventually. Happy winter solstice everyone
Florida is the only team in nation to have won a national title in basketball and football in the same year. Florida is one if three teams to have won a national title in football basketball and baseball Florida is one of ten teams to have won national titles in both football and basketball. You can blame our current predicament on Mullen, White, Napier, Zook, Strickland, Albert, Gainesville weather, transfer portal or whatever you choose. It makes no difference for it is what it is. Please excuse my bitching and complaining when I look at the current SEC standings and see the once Mighty Gators are 11th in both football and basketball. I think it is atrocious and embarrassing. The Gator Nation deserves much more.
You are what you recruit. Wasn’t Golden’s fault this year, but we have to get away from filling our roster with mid-major and P5 non starters.
i actually still cling to the idea that this is a pretty talented roster. It’s just not working collectively… yet.
CC was a role player until he transfered here. The others were considerably better at what they did before they arrived here. It's not the individual players or their pedigree. New everything with experience from all over and not always the best fit, and it shows. The only players that have experience together sit on the bench.
This year’s team is forcing the ball more on offense than last year’s team did, and last year’s team forced the ball way too much.
Sometimes having one star player works against you. It makes it easy for the other side to come up with a game plan. Did Georgia make the Final Four with Dominique Wilkens? Surprisingly "No". Did they make the Final Four in the year after he left? Surprisingly "Yes" with Vern Fleming as their best player. Vern was nowhere near a 'Nique. Yes, CC is our best player, but running the team around him makes us very predictable. Without him we could have some talented guys creating havoc and be much harder to defend.
maybe Golden isn't Golden. Missouri and LSU both have 1st year coaches and both are 11-1. I don't know about LSU but I know we have more talent than Missouri. As of right now are there any coaches in the Sec than Golden is better? After 12 games, our signature win is over Ohio. I think he is a good coach for mid majors. Can you tell me what coach our Ad hired that is wining?
