While that is true, none of them played a schedule remotely close to the strength of ours with a QB that seemed to want to be elsewhere. Plus, we beat Utah who won the conference that 2 of those teams are in and pounded USC twice.
I understand the portal, my question was whether we didn't use it as much as certain other teams last year because we couldn't get the xfers we wanted or we didn't have room on the roster.
Combination of both. I'll admit that Kelly and Riley had more attractive situations at their respective schools in order to land those guys. We lost several head to head battles with them too, so they did try. Just not enough cache.

He had room (lots of room) for incoming players via the portal. He backfilled the open positions with about 20 players from the Portal and the rest with walk on players and the annual signee classes. The portal as we know it started in October of 2018 From October 2018 to October 222, UF lost about 44 players to the Portal and gained about 22 players. In November of this year, another 20 players filed for the Portal to leave UF. Not all of the players leaving UF via the Portal were in the annual signee class. However a good amount were . At this time it appears that Napier has and will make way better use of the Portal to restock the team.

Yep. Using the same tactics Dooley, Majors, Bowden, Vaught, Jordan, and Pell's mentor, Bear Bryant did for decades. And being we never had a losing season from 1986-9, I doubt the Gators sank far. Pell built the foundation for modern Florida football.
