If CBN is on the hot seat after next season I think I will give up on the UF fan base.

The #1 reason we sucked this year?

4 head coaches in 10 year span. No one can win with that kind of turn over.

I don't care that UF fans aren't patient. Get patient, because this entitled "you better do it next year or else" crap is self defeating.

we've had coaches that suck at being coaches & now you want fans to suck at being fans? Nope.

Do you really think if any of those guys had been there for five years it would have made any difference?

I don’t see viable options to Billy Napier right now. Even if there were it would not be a good move to entertain any thought of change right now. He hasn’t had time to build his program. Period.
I think Napier has an enormous upside as a coach for this age that we live in. I may be wrong. It ain’t the same college football that I grew up loving. But BN seems like the type of coach/administrator that can work through the different dynamics that are now in play with building a successful football program in today’s environment. He strikes me as very smart (absolutely no pun intended) and in touch with today’s youth.
Gotta grit our teeth, hunker down, get behind our guy and hope like heck better days are on the horizon.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened with Mullen had the fan base not turned on him. Heck both he and McElwain had won the East Division just the year before being run out of town.

In what part of life is impatience a virtue?

What makes you think they don't suck already? Running two head coaches off the year after winning a division is not a good thing.

News Flash. This is happening everywhere with disgruntled fans, not just UF. Happening even at schools (like University of South Carolina) who are decent once every decade. Ohio State loses to Michigan and they want Ryan Day out. This is not an issue only to UF fanbase.

I’m picking us to go 6-7 again, but this time, we’ll be paired up with a team that goes 10-2.

Interesting, seems I recall us firing them both. I guess those severance packages we are paying them is just because we are really nice.

Edit: I see my recollection is off on McElwain... being threatened with a firing w/ cause they agreed to part ways.

Completely agree, after Michigan loss there was a huge uproar. Fans fed up.
Same with Clemson this year with Dabo, Nick Saban, all same.

At least those teams have tasted sustained success.

My problem with Miami is that when they have a lousy team, we don’t seem to play them, but by the time we play them, they’ll be good again.

I think both Mullen and McElwain couldn't believe they were being fired after the success they'd created. McElwain couldn't believe the lack of support about the credit cards and then that the administration gave him no cover at all about the death-threat misstatement, and Mullen had just put together a Heisman finalist, three New Years 6 bowls and an epic SEC title game. I think both were incredulous that them being fired was even in the discussion until it was.

Whether you agree with those decisions or not, if I were an impressive coach, I would have serious reservations about working for Scott Stricklin. He's not shown loyalty or support to anyone he did not hire, and sometimes not even them.

I think two things can be true at the same time. Both Shark Boy and Mullen fired themselves and Stricklin is a terrible athletic director.

I have a philosophy on being fired. In most cases, you don't get fired for a mistake or a series of them. You get fired because your employer has lost faith in your ability to fix the problems that led to the mistakes.

Mullen's recruiting was just too crappy, that showed this year and will continue to show. He might've actually done better with the money being out in the open now but I still think we're better off with Billy.

And most of the time you get fired before things really get out of control. Sure, we could have given Muschamp, McElwain, and Mullen each another year or two to completely prove things weren't going to get any better but what good would that have done anyone? They got their golden parachutes and we got to start trying to fix things.

I would add that what gets you in real trouble isn't making a mistake or two, it is rather what is your plan and how are you doing in trying to get there? Methinks they both took a break after their Year 2 successes. And I can also get behind the notion that they were still on their own Honeymoon periods during Year 2 and then came the reality of the job. Neither was designed for the real rigors.

Which is why I am optimistic about Napier. He does not look as if he lets short-term successes get in the way of long-term goals. Now can he get to where he needs in a time frame that works for the fan base? We shall see.
