We may be the new Kentucky.

    If we can beat Kentucky.

I think 2nd is a reasonable expectation, but not for another season or two. The lack of talent and depth on both sides of the line is UF’s biggest problem right now.

A lot of fans are worried about Miami’s recruiting and how UGA is widening the gap even further…when we need to be worries about how we now have on the field issues with tier 3 and 4 SEC teams. Need to be working to separate ourselves again from that tier before we worry about anything else

I’m not being facetious when I say that I’d like to see us beat KY and Vandy next year.

A bunch of folks need to internalize this point.

21st century UF is not going to head towards becoming a football factory. It's just not what the institution is about.

No reason the football program has to suck at the current level, but it's not going to be Bammer, UGA, or OSU at any point in the future.

Although that’s ostensibly why Billy was brought in.

Sustainability was the word thrown around a lot by SS. I think that's important. Consistency. I think once BN gets things settled we are looking at a Richt type situation, rather than a quick high only to be followed up by a huge drop. We saw that with the last 3. I'm personally okay with that. Would love to see another SEC championship/Title, but I don't think the SEC and college football is set up for UF to succeed at that level consistently. I will say a 12 team playoff was UF's only shot, but the addition of OU and Texas add some complexity to that equation. Throw NIL in and it's a mess.

    Not an unreasonable expectation.

A very good defense will help a lot.

Why? Has Michigan suddenly become a has-been academic school and sold its soul to get into the playoffs with Georgia and OSU?

If UF is indeed headed to that position then it’s not just the fans that need to come to that realization… Kentucky, South Carolina, basically anyone not named Alabama, Georgia, or Texas A&M (soon to be Texas and Oklahoma) all have much lower overall payrolls for football staffs than Florida. LSU and Ole Miss (slightly) pay their head coaches more but neither has the extensive staff we do.
If middling is our future, and if it is indeed inevitable… then the administration needs to fully embrace it.
If our goal is a notch or two below Alabama, Georgia, and OSU we can do that much cheaper… because others already are.
Obviously, a least on the short term, facilities, fan support, or extensive staff are not nearly as important for recruiting as they once were, but if Michigan can get to a four team playoff (they beat OSU pretty convincingly)… I personally see no reason we can’t.
Perhaps your point was that we could get to the point where we could at least compete occasionally for a conference title or playoff berth, but I sincerely couldn’t tell. No sarcasm intended.

The last part is at least my point, but it's not going to happen anytime soon IMO.

We can all agree the path for Michigan is far easier than UF's.

Lots of complaints on Twitter following Fletcher’s commitment to Miami regarding the UAA, NIL, and Stricklin. I understand that we may not be getting the contributions towards NIL like some other schools but holy cow I can’t grasp why our fans lose their minds every time we lose a recruit in this day and age. It seems like there’s a lot of finger pointing at Stricklin for not raising more money but what if our donors don’t care about football as much as Hathcock?

With the way college football ebbs and flows, I’m not going to sit here and whine about losing recruits or brag when we land a 5* because anything can happen and we have absolutely no clue how these kids will be utilized or developed. I think people are far too emotional when it comes to 17-18 year old kids’ decisions.

So why increase payroll and have this huge staff?

I don’t see an unemotional faction. Reactions range from hypercritical (beating down program) to hyper-protective (beating down criticism).

Whether you're for or against Billy, we all just gotta accept that we're going to have to wait a few more seasons to see how it plays out. At this point, it seems like the way to go would maybe be use HS recruiting to load up on blue chips and depth but then attack the portal for more proven elite players since we aren't going to get into a bidding war for an HS kid outside of the QB position. I wouldn't mind if we took that strategy to be honest.

Every big time university fan base has a bunch that react strongly to losing recruits, games, etc. No different anywhere else.
