And besides, signing day is a couple of months away and people seem to forget we live in a portal world now. Step one is freeing up spots. Step two is a solid recruiting class. Step three is good portal contributors. But they're not necessarily done in that order, they're all going on all year.
It's hard to tell right now. But we could get as high as 7 to 12. But I'm leaning towards about the 9 to 12 range, realistically. Anything better than 7 would be huge, but that seems a bit optimistic right now.
I sure wish we could make it to signing day before we perform a premature post-mortem on this signing class....the patient might actually still have some life left.
I’m pretty “glass half full” when it comes to the football program. I don’t need championships to be happy, just a good and consistent team who does decently against rivals. If Billy closes with a class outside the top 10, it’s hard to look at him as anything but an upgrade from the Mullen who got fired but an overall move in the wrong direction from Mullen 2018-2020. Still better recruiting than Mullen, but Mullen was probably a top 5 offensive mind in college football. What Napier has going for him isn’t X’s and O’s, it’s building a system that will build a winner. We need to give him time, but right now, I’m not seeing a championship winner at any level. Not offense, defense, special teams, or recruiting. Hopefully he understands that. Most fans aren’t like me and neither is the administration. They expect championships, not just “good years, with a good record against rivals.”
We can’t keep making excuses because the landscape of college football is changing. It’s always changing. If you want to win titles and be a first class program, you have to be ahead of the 8 ball, not make excuses.
Agree. We also need to take into account that player rankings will be recalibrated again after the HS AA games. If EW gets 4 or 5 touches and smokes some defenders… or KJ lights up the back field …or Rashada goes 11/14 with 2 TDs …Harris impresses during practices and gets a 4th star …etc etc etc …it could mean a really nice bump with the team ranking. You never know. Point being, the recruiting game doesn’t end next week.
Didn’t Mullen finish in the top ten his second year ? Yes, we know how that panned out. But then we don’t know how Billy’s second year is going to pan out either.
