There were 60 minutes of bad optics. I can’t believe that kicking a field goal at the end of the game instead of a desperation pass for the end zone is going to make any difference in any recruit’s mind. Either they want to come be a part of the program and help rebuild it, or they’ll go somewhere else. I just can’t see that kicking the field goal or not would make any difference.

Anyway, he sent a message with about eight minutes to go when I wanted him to kick a field goal to secure the streak, and he went for it instead.

On the other hand, a streak of that magnitude is always good publicity.

Nothing about this game is relevant for recruiting. The team was already 6-6 and lost to Vandy, whether we kicked a FG or didn't in the "some construction company bowl" means zero.

    Keep telling yourself that.

Just so we are clear, you're telling me that had Florida beaten Oregon State, Napier wouldn't be using this as a selling point to kids considering the program?

Unfortunately the option was to try to go for 4th and goal from the 23 to lose 33-7 or kick a FG to lose 33-3

I don’t think it matters to anyone at all. We are a joke because we got crushed. Not because we kicked a FG at the end

Your first choice wasn’t an option. What’s your point?

This game was miserable enough without also being a hallmark event that ended a nation’s best scoring streak. Because of those 3 points heroically provided by Mihalek, this game will not have any special significance attached to it. I’ll take that and move on

Yeah, that's a good point. Giving that the beaver had subdued the bullgator at that stage of the game, may as well keep the streak alive. But I hope that kind of thinking doesn't become endemic with the team going forward.

That's not at all what was being discussed, you've just taken the goalposts and moved them to Oregon.

It is unfathomable and ridiculous that kicking a FG would affect recruiting one way or the other.

I remember a team at Florida Field who kicked a late field goal to avoid being shut out.
Not to keep a streak going- just to avoid the shut out. And it wasn't 4th and 23.
It was far more ridiculous than what we did. Did that hurt them?
    Well no.

That team that kicked the FG was Miami in 1983.
They went on to win the NC that year, and win multiple NCs over the next decade.

If you think Billy is in a recruits living room bragging about being 7-6 (in your scenario)? I highly doubt that comes up, more likely the facilities, early playing time, being in the SEC, how strong UF is academically.
