I think they would like to run a lot of 2 TE formations with one a blocker and one more of a receiving threat. They did a bit of that with Zipp and Zanders early, tried it with Odom as well. Mixed results at best, but that's kind of what the TE room offered

That's a good question. And I agree with it. To me if you're going to use the TE almost exclusively as a blocker you may as well just use a 6th offensive lineman instead.

It's works well for UGA, but then again they have 2 NFL tightends on their team. With who we have? I would not use the 12 personnel formation. Even if we're on the goal-line. I'd just use 6 O-lineman and run an 11 personnel formation instead.

You wanted Napier to keep the TE coach from Mullen's staff, who built the suspect TE room we inherited? Who had a poorly producing room the year before? Most felt Brewster's time has long since passed....Deion hired him but no D1 schools seemed interested

So, getting rid of Elksnis makes sense to you? Or is there other reasons why we let him walk to USCe?

Why trade our last tightends coach for this guy?

Any idea when we will see more commits from the portal? I’m starting to get worried with the lack of action. I understand the coaches could not recruit this week because of the game. Just frustrating and concerning seeing some commits come off the board in the portal.

Man it’s a crapshoot trying to place blame on the mess that Mullen left. I don’t make to much of what went on this year. It’s kinda like our two min drill that didn’t exist. Do you think out of our 50 coaches that no one can come up with a better plan or tgat when they do it in practice, they just think it’s more productive to take a knee. We couldn’t even get a go to attack for 3rd and five.

AR wasn’t going to make Pitts look good in the short game, he just isn’t there yet.

All I am saying is that the last guy that we had at that position, the one we fired, had a real tightends resume. This has NOTHING to do with the bad luck we had in the tightends' room. You can separate the two, can't you? The injuries from the skill/EXPERIENCE at coaching that position?

With 50 coaches/analysts, someone has the time to keep the seats warm. We have no idea what’s going on but our staff should.

Our inconsistency as a whole this year was maddening at times. What was disappointing and UNDERRATED is that we got WORST in the penalty department as the season went on. It was a gradual thing but it spearheaded itself the last 3 L's of the season

The issue is that, if we have no more defections, we only can take like 6 (around that number, not sure of the exact number) more kids so I guess the staff is being very selective. Also may be waiting until kids at a position of need, besides QB, to enter that they feel they may have a shot at that are plug and start guys and not depth pieces at the most. Caleb Banks better be a starter or DT3 next year or idk why they even would take him.

Random, but in spots, I liked what I saw in Derek Wingo yesterday

He won the RB Coach of the year the previous season at MSU with Kenneth Walker.

But more to my point is that being a good running backs coach means nothing as far as his coaching acumen as a tightends coach.

    Guessing it’s a combo of

    1) Elksnis was recruited to UF by a different coaching staff. All of the relationships he built with that staff - are gone. He may not be as comfortable with the new staff or new offensive system. Fair or not, he has missed parts or most of two seasons with injuries and may feel he has a rep for injuries and wants a new start.

    2) coaching staff didn’t recruit Elksnis. He may not fit their prototypical TE. He’s been hurt for 2 straight seasons. They may want to go another direction.

    probabky somewhere in between

I think our TE coach is the weakest position coach “and” recruiter for the on field coaching staff. That said, don’t think any of the TEs on our roster were any good.

I can separate them but he was coaching a bunch of stiffs from the previous staff with a qb that can’t get the ball to te’s or rb,s. Now if he had Yrask and Pitts and we looked like last year?????

And the qb. Even all good nfl qb’s don’t equally utilize the te.

No doubt. Utah game looked like we had our shit together and then false starts in the last games. I dunno
