Nina Rickards led the way with 23 points while KK Deans added 21 as well. NONCONFERENCE DOMINANCE Dating back to the 2019-20 season, Florida is in the midst of a 21-game home winning streak during nonconference competition, tied for the longest streak in program history. The last home loss for the Gators in the nonconference came on Nov. 26, 2019, when Florida State won in Gainesville, 66-55. IN-STATE BATTLES The 2022-23 schedule was unique for the Gators in that it featured matchups with four schools in the state of Florida. UF met Florida A&M (Nov. 7), Florida State (Nov. 16), Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 18) and Miami (Dec. 11) this year, marking the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Gators have played four in-state schools. After claiming victory over Miami, the Gators won three games over in-state opponents (FAMU, BCU, Miami) for the first time since 2014-15 when they defeated Jacksonville, Stetson and North Florida. Florida's win over Miami also marked the Gators' first win at an ACC school since defeating NC State, 66-61, on Dec. 7, 2008. STRONG START The Gators, who boast a 10-1 mark through 11 games, are currently in the midst of their best start to a season since the 2015-16 campaign when they opened 12-1. The best start to a season in program history came during the 2008-09 campaign when they began 15-1. JUST WIN With their victory over Miami, Florida is now on an eight-game winning streak, the longest since the 2015-16 campaign when the Gators won 12-straight from Nov. 16-Dec. 30, 2015. COUNTDOWN TO 800 Florida women's basketball is closing in on their 800th victory as a program, currently holding 798 during their 49-year history. When the Gators accomplish the feat, they will be the 13th SEC to cross the 800-win threshold, with Mississippi State also chasing the accomplishment, owning 775 victories as a program entering the 2022-23 season. KK'S 1K Florida senior guard, KK Deans, is closing in on her 1,000th career point. The West Virginia transfer recorded 788 points with the Mountaineers and currently holds 150 points on the season with the Gators, pushing her career total to 938. She would be the second 1,000-point scorer on the roster, as Leilani Correa scored 1,272 points in her three seasons at St. John's. 60: THE MAGIC NUMBER Under the leadership of Kelly Rae Finley, Florida's defense will always be a point of emphasis. Helping to prove that point, the Gators own a perfect 19-0 mark under Finely when holding opponents to 60 points or less. Gators Close Home Nonconference Slate on Sunday - Florida Gators
At this point I think it likely Jordyn Merritt is done being a Gator.... weeks of no show at games and not seen any sign of her in practice pics or vids on social media. Even if she comes back you gotta play the girls who have been putting in the work.
Good points. Hard to believe this team will have lost its two best players before getting really to December
I saw somebody in a walking boot that looked somewhat like Correa after the half time buzzer during the broadcast. Is that her? Also, no Correa in the first half. OK, what is the issue with her? The SID work for the women's team is truly below average.
I think Correa hasn't been 100% healthy for a while. Didn't even realize she wasn't playing.... not following live today. That is sad to hear. We are so very thin now in a season we should have been deep...but yes the people who cover this program do a very poor job. Been that way for years. IMO you need great coverage if you want to build interest.
Actually, the player in the walking boot may have been Merritt. But not being there in the arena it is only a guess.
I will try to catch some of the second half, but Merritt hasn't been present in a while so my money would be on Corrrea.
Hopefully it's just a rest type issue to get 100%. When she is 100% she is our best player IMO. Seems Kyle is having a really good game today. That is very encouraging.
