Lack of Coaching and Lack of Talent aren't mutually exclusive. We lack both. We humiliated South Carolina and then proceeded to lose three in a row. The same team we humiliated went on to beat two top ten teams. Coaching made a difference.
Before they moved the game time I agreed to go xmas shopping with my wife so I didn’t watch. Typically shopping is very painful, seems like it wasn’t as painful as watching the performance on the field. Plus I got bonus points for doing that instead of watching the game.
Yeah he didn’t play hard enough on defense.. You know they went up and down the field on us with what was the worst passing game in the country right?
If next year goes the way this year did even the most ardent Napier lovers are gonna be second guessing the hire.
Don’t forget the huge number of players this coaching staff has run off. More than a few of those poor recruits from Mullen an Co are either in the NFL or starting at other D schools.
Gassed? Look at the score. It’s 10-0 early in the game. He made one play during the game and was more like this the rest of the game
Somebody needs to put you back in your play pen and change your diapers. Calling people stupid for expressing obvious short-comings is short sighted at best. "fire Billy and hire Who?" It's obvious that Napier has not been at all effective as an offensive coordinator and needs to fill that position. We also have problems at defensive coach and special teams coach. Where are those coaches going to come from? They aren't going to be people in line for a head coaching positions, they are going to be either second tier or experiments. We are going to be chasing coordinators, just like we have been chasing head coaches. This coach isn't SEC ready and never will be.
There's a lot of folks here who are in total denial as to how far this program has fallen. Time to wake up.
It's all of the above. Our unwillingness to spend $$$ on this program over the last decade or so is the #1 reason for our decline. There's some evidence that some of that is changing, but we are still way behind our rivals who had their foot on the gas.
Nah you’ll be told he getting rid of all the crappy players Mullen had. That he’s fixing the toxic environment Mullen made… Ignore it that just people trying to justify and fuel their hope that we didn’t hire someone over their head.
Said this most of the year. Was ripped early in the season because of what I saw then and it never changed.
Mullen had recruiting classes in the top 10 every year. Did he recruit like Bama and UGA no but he out recruited just about everyone else including Vandy by a wide margin. Enough about Mullen.
I got roasted suggesting this in a thread I started. We can’t turn down a bowl game according to SEC policy.
The UF athletic department was 15th in spending as of November 2021. Currently we have 3 coordinators making $1,000,000 (both defensive co-coordinators). Our strength and conditioning guy makes $750k. This is in Gainesville with no income taxes and where $1.5M can get you a 5,000 sqft executive mansion. Our head coach is the 15th highest paid in ncaaf. We're definitely not scared to spend money.
Our opponents have gotten much better. Georgia - guaranteed loss LSU - guaranteed loss Tennessee - look at how much better the are FSU - their program has gotten much better Kentucky - 2 losses in a row South Carolina - 50/50 chance of beating them now Arkansas - they’re no slouch Utah - they’re no slouch either We even lost to Vanderbilt, which is usually a guaranteed win Solution? Leave the SEC and join the ACC
USF was our worst performance of the season in my opinion. Kentucky was a qb meltdown. Tennessee we gave them a game but , the defense... LSU , the defense. Georgia, mixed bag. Vandy, fluky game with the turnovers and b.s. penalties. Fsu, played them tight except for the 3rd. Bowl game was a roster mess against a top 15 team, shouldn't even have been matched with them. The USF game gave me questions and doubt that I still am on the fence about. I think there is a TON of over reaction for the bowl game but there is cause for concern. Side note: Fsu was our bowl game and should have been coached as such. Maybe it was and we just fell short but getting beaten badly in the 3rd quarter might be my greatest concern because it is indicative of coaching. Also, special teams cannot be so neglected. Special teams are one third of the game and given our abject failure on them all year I would have expected to see some sort of change. We did not make them.
