The last two coaches got fired after starting out with double digit win totals. As soon as they dropped to .500 they were gone. The only unique thing here is obviously Napier inherited a mess, so of course gets a pass in year 1. His job right now is to recruit and rebuild the roster. The only question is how many passes. No chance he can average 6 wins for 4 years and make it to year 5. This should be stating the obvious. There is no hot seat right now (that’s what “getting a pass” means), but there probably is a level where he gets in trouble (say he goes 5-7 or worse next year). The bottom line is he has to show progress at least while continuing to rebuild the roster.
A joke in what sense? Are you suggesting that coaching errors were not a large part of the problem this season? Or are you suggesting that “coaching errors” is too much of an understatement?
While I would agree there were some coaching errors, I do not think they were a large part of our problems this season. We had the least talented defense and receiving corps that I have seen in 50 years
Let’s say you are correct. Would you, as coach, say then that we should have run the ball more or less than we did? And is that a player or a coaching decision?
Yep, because including 2010 Urban, the last 4 coaches to turn over the program sucked. That’s our entire problem in a nutshell
It takes players and coaching acumen and development. It is too early to tell which we lack although players with Talent seems to be an indicative challenge for us. Anyway, our setup with the portal is such bullshit and it really hurts certain teams worse than others. College football as it stands today can suck it.
He will be in his fourth class by the time this class is making their full contribution so Yepper, could be. The portal can speed that up but we will see.
I think Jesse is correct. This is not a quick or easy turnaround. I mentioned some weeks ago that we're back in 1978-79, rock bottom. I got a lot of pushback. I still think I'm right.
Well it sounds like our coaches better figure out how to win 9-10 games before then because I don't think anyone will survive that long winning 6 games in Gainesville.
