The biggest thing to blame is honestly atrocious luck with coaching hires.

Georgia went from Richt to Kirby.

FSU went from Bowden to Jimbo.

Ohio State was able to smoothly transition from Urban to Day.

Right now, we seem to be in the same boat as Auburn and Tennessee for the last ten years or so.

You know what, there was one thing to hang our hat on this season, the running game.

Bowl game aside, this was the best the OL has looked probably in at least a decade. If Billy can show that this will be a normal thing during his tenure here, that's definitely something to build one side of the ball around.

Literally everything else needs work. :D

Coaching to me means the team is playing better at the end of the year than the beginning...coach is essentially coaching them up and making the players better. That being said does anyone want to suggest a position where we improved as the year went on? Im at a loss....

100% agreed with your take about inspiration. I'm not giving up on coach Napier yet, but I also haven't seen much yet to justify strong confidence he can get it done at UF.

he ought to get at least three years here, but he'll need to show better results and something tangible for Gator fans to believe in next season or the noise is going to get really loud going into 2024.

In conference, currently Bama, UGA and LSU are ahead of us in recruiting while 10 teams are behind us. Pretty good considering those 3 schools finished 1, 2, and T-3 while we finished 9th in conference standings.

Besides that, yes, a lot of changes need to be made starting with a dedicated OC. Napier isn't even a good playcaller imho. He needs to be CEO, impliment his plan, and have a top notch OC/DC to execute it.

Very little progression was made from game 1 to 13. And actually you can say we somewhat regressed overall even if you don't count this game, the VU and FSU games were not good even if we did put up a fight in Doak. Utah now looks like an even more shocking upset than when we actually won.

    Too early to tell.

But how he addresses the following things before 2023 will be good predictors of his future here:

    1. Patrick Toney and the worse 3rd down D in the country

    2. Playcalling and no OC

    3. Time management and use of TOs

    4. No special teams coach

    5. Offensive scheme and adaptation to available talent.

    Coaches Hot Seat 2022

This list is always changing, but boy is it interesting. Billy's already in the top 10. :D

What's also interesting is the other coaches listed in the top 10: Cristobal, Jimbo, Brent Venables, and Mel Tucker. If you include Napier, 4 of those are first year head coaches. 2 of them, everybody was raving about as elite coaches until basically 2 seconds ago.

College football is wild folks. Things can dramatically change for better or worse from one season to the next. If that doesn't give you hope, I don't know what does.

Listened to a bit of BN's presser, continues to say the same things, we got to play better and coach better. When will that happen? 7 losses and haven't done either. He is a players coach in that he seemingly wants to be their friend no matter how bad the team is playing he elaborates on their grit, their togetherness, their desire but there's no trophy's for that. Are fans to feel better with a 7 loss season just knowing the team plays hard and doesn't give up. Do we get points for not giving up?
After every loss, I've noticed he says he and coaches have to do better, yet where is the improvement? D remains a mess. Special teams remains a mess. Play calling and lack of any creativity remains a mess.
If wins could be given for being a pleasant and likable coach we'd be undefeated. But he is being paid big bucks to win. He has been given the golden key in that apparently whatever he wants for the program he gets. But right now there's not much about this coaching staff that exudes confidence that things will change. Zero momentum going into next year other than hopefully a top ten recruiting class if it sticks. BN coaching, hires, and lack of motivating and developing makes it easy to recruit against him.

To be clear, I am in no way saying BN has not significantly improved the recruiting vs the previous regime. I was illustrating that an expectation to out talent the SEC is not reasonable. Getting on par is step 1 though.

Not a joke at all. Like I said in a previous post, Gator fans are not patient, do not preach patience to us, and do not try to change us.

Billy’s seat is not hot entering 2023. Have a repeat of 2022 next year and his seat will be thermonuclear hot entering 2024.

To be fair, what is he supposed to say?

I don't think it's really good leadership to single anyone out in a press conference. When you're playing like this, there's nothing you really can say. You just have to be better.

It's also possible Billy kicks some tail in 2023.

I'm going to choose to hope for that.

Genuinely curious as to why not?

That's the Kirby/Saban model. And it may be the Brian Kelly model.

Obviously there can only be one recruiting winner and one actual winner. But it's still a viable strategy if executed well, as we've seen with Saban and Kirby.

I had hoped that he was but really have my doubts. He is almost too nice to a fault. Praises our opponents. Praises our players quite a bit after losses. Seems to care less about rivalries. Seems overly analytical with nothing to show for it. The guy is as nice as can be but that's not why he was hired. I just don't see him holding anybody accountable including fellow coaches.

Gator fans have no patience, and will not change? Sounds about right.

Do what you have always done, and you will get what you have always gotten.

Why don't you go pick up the tab for the "savior" your delusional self thinks is out there.

And we talk about this being a historically bad defense. Now that season is official. Florida allowed the most first downs (296), most yards (5,343) and most points (375) in the history of the program.
    Let that sink in.

This is the track that moribund programs that were once successful have all taken, without exception.

    Another excellent point.

As I said before, these questions must be answered whenever you're considering firing a coach:
    1. Why are we firing the current coach (is it really that bad, have we given him enough time)?
    2. Who do we want to replace him and how confident are we that we can hire him and that he will succeed?
