A program in the location and with the resources that UF has should not suck this bad, but the truth is we do. Question is how in the hell do we climb out of this hole?
If that happens he is gone. Cannot regress pointing to recruiting and a “culture” that apparently isn’t working.
Obviously completely hypothetical, but I think the narrative in a “3-9 but top 5 recruiting class in 2024, help is on the way, Mullen screwed this program so hard!” scenario would be enough to get Napier a third year. Perhaps with some mandatory firings of buddies from Stricklin. Then again, if Stricklin is no longer the AD, all bets are off…
“It’s my job to have the team ready to play, and we weren’t as ready to play as we needed to be,” Florida coach Billy Napier said afterward. “The things that disappoint me are the penalties, some situational mistakes in the game, certainly a lot of things we can do from a coaching perspective. I do think we hung in there on defense. We didn’t produce much on offense.” Season high 11 penalties for 82yds. Oregon St. offense was 7/12 on 3rd down. UF gave up a fake punt for 1st down & had a punt blocked. WATCH: Napier disappointed by penalties, UF's offense in Oregon State loss
Been hearing all season we could coach them better. Do something about it! Find coaches who can do what's in their title and coach! Get coaches with power5 experience, this is FL, not some lower level school to come and have on the job training. Good grief.
Pffftt.. Gone? What do you know and who are you? Come on. Mullen didn't recruit a lick and what-30 players-- either transferred out or opted out? A backup QB who was barely serviceable played Lose a meaningless game, and all the spoiled, entitled brats on this board wet their pants. I think I am going to invest in orange and blue pacifiers. Take a chill pill, or fire Billy and hire WHO? Just to repeat the cycle? I am amazed by the stupidity of people on this board.
Stricklin should be gone long before Napier is given the hook. At some point the people MAKING these hires need to be held accountable. You shouldnt get to hire and fire 3 football coaches and keep your job as AD
In retrospect, it probably isn't a bad loss. Vandy finished 5-7, while Florida finished 6-7. Pretty evenly matched... We've had four losing seasons in the last ten years. Prior to 2013, we had four losing seasons in 53 years. JFK was President...12 presidents ago.
Stricklin’s removal and a new AD’s desire to get his own guy in goes hand in hand with a 3-9 type season next year. Maybe a top 5 recruiting class keeps the wolves at bay for another year beyond that. Maybe.
The day we equate a loss to Vandy as the same as any other loss is the day we are no longer a blue blood. So perhaps you’re right.
It's very simple to blame Mullen, Grantham, the current coaching staff for our current woes, but I am thinking we haven't fully developed a strategy for the Portal and the NIL. I'm not sure who makes the decisions for these activities, but it may take a while to figure it all out.
Would u prefer to suck at the so called Olympic sports also? The diff isn't money, it's that those sports for the most part have great coaches.
When were we ever a blueblood? Last I checked, there are eight of those, and we never were one of 'em (Alabama, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame). Too many people think we are The Mighty Gators of Pell, Spurrier and Meyer, when in fact after 2009, our record isn't much higher than .600 (.619), and our record against P5 opponents is 74-60 (.550). It's not mediocre, but it is just above average. Since 2010, our record is closer to Miss State than it is to Alabama, Georgia and LSU. Our loss against Vandy showed the difference of the teams THIS YEAR, not the program as a whole. This year's 'Dores were not the usual 2-10 Vandy team that damned near beat our MNC team in 1996. Not very long ago, we considered Kentucky an auto-win, but we've lost three of the last five games against the 'Cats. Opponents don't fear the Gators like they used to, and the glories we had in the increasingly distant past means nothing today and next year. This is going to take some time.
Stop listening to coachspeak expecting truth. Reality is the roster needs a big makeover, but he's not going to say that.
Whatever Nostradamus, if we promise to remember what you posted will you stop cluttering the board with nonsense?
It blows my mind that some folks think it’s not a talent issue. If you’re one of them answer 2 questions: 1. How are 2 of our best players transfers from Louisiana? 2. Name one player on our team that would start on Alabama or Georgia.
I think it is too early to tell with Napier, but agree 100% with you that Stricklin’s fate is tied to Napier’s. If the Napier hire does not succeed, Stricklin will be fired. Look at AD’s fired around the country over the last 20 years where a Paterno-like scandal was NOT involved. The most common denominator is two consecutive failed football coaching hires.
