It will take 4 or 5 top recruiting classes to get us back to competing for the SEC Championship- let alone the CFP
No coach can survive at UF sucking for 4 years promising the 5th one will finally bring results. Napier needs to produce tangible results starting next year.
Well - if he can consistently improve from 6-7 to 8-5 to 10-3 to 11-2 with similar improvement in recruiting, I dont think we will fire him. He may not win the SEC, but needs to beat Georgia 2/4 and FSU 3/4 and Tenn 2/4 or 3/4.
While we do need significantly better talent to compete against the top teams, I can’t really agree with the timeline. Blue chip players only stay 3 years, not 4 or 5.
I wouldn't get my hopes up for next year. Did you see that team out there today? Definitely need at least another rebuilding year.
And how can anyone realistically expect CBN to pull in a top-5 class after this disaster of a season? The recruits all saw the same coaching errors that we did. What exactly do you tell that 5-star would make them forget about that? If it’s we are prepared to top the NIL offers of any other universities, then, yeah, that might work.
Maybe they don’t see it as blaming it all on coaching. Take #33 on defense for example EDIT: I just put the name to the number. That joke of a pass rush caught on film ‘was Umanmielen. That’s really disturbing
We could be great next year if we get the right performers coming in from high school or the portal. If the guys click you could see a special year. There is a lot to be fixed long term so I agree with Jesse, that in order to sustain a great level of playoff caliber teams, then it will take consistent high ranked classes from high school guys and studs from the portal.... But a super year is only the right class away at a given power like UF. (Nowadays). We'll see. GO GATORS!!!!
Indeed- although he might get criticized for maybe not winning a championship by then...and be called Richt 2.0
Obviously to expect competing for championships in year 1 or even 2 is ridiculous. Especially knowing the defense was a total bottoming out under Mullen. But progress has to be shown. I don’t think this season matters much, BUT it’s not good that we closed with 3 straight L’s, that’s the takeaway, no momentum going into next year. At one point late in the season we were also *dead last* on 3rd down defense (not sure if we finished dead last, but either way there wasn’t much improvement even on D over Mullen… and that’s pretty damming…). That being said. The bar isn’t high. Most people will give him that full 5 years time if he recruits well and can get back 8 or 9 wins pretty quickly. I don’t think anyone stays around long losing to UK, Vandy, and finishing it off getting blown the **** out by Oregon State. This season is the freebie or at best is strike 1. Year 2 has to show progress over year 1.
And who are you to make such a decree? Big booster, with major ties to the UAA? Ha ha ha. No, just an internet cowboy with a computer.
I don’t think it was a decree as much as a prediction. One that history suggests is correct, I might add.
I swear some posters on here started following the Gators yesterday. Just look at our post-Spurrier history. Look at who was fired, when, and why. Napier will not be fired this year. But suck out loud next year and his seat is the absolute hottest in the country entering 2024. We fired Zook, McElwain, and Mullen for less.
Norvell and others showing you can do it through portal. Heck, USC, Washington, and TCU all had 1st year coaches and won big time and no our 2/3 did not have more talent than us in fact I’d argue that all three didn’t have more talent than us and anybody disagreed and thought that USC had more would have to say it was only because of Williams and Addison coming in the portal
