After suffering through this whole game it is amazing that this team with AR at qb averaged 31 points per game and didn't score less than 20 all season.
If CBN is cleaning house and advising guys to leave I’m not worried about that. I mean we’ve seen this cast of characters enough under multiple coaches to know we have a serious personnel program. We blamed it on Grantham. We blame it on Toney. Different coaches same players. We ran Mullen off partly over poor recruiting. We have a serious personnel problem — Billy is likely doing what he has to, and it’s not pretty
A bunch of overreactions on this thread....Today was a combination of things - low key bowl game that players and possibly some coaches were not interested given that they were busy with closing out recruiting as ESD is nearby, new QB who hardly practiced and opt outs/transfers that left this team gutted. Remember, most of these opt outs/transfers were ones who dominated practice reps through the year. So, there is not much for a fan to takeaway from this game. Nevertheless, BN needs to reevaluate his staff, recruiting strategy, focus on portal acquisitions and rebuild this team for success. My concern is that we will once again have a bunch of first year starters on this team in 2023, but with some better talent. So, I dont think we will be good in 2023 as well. However, if that talent matures by 2024 and with infusion of more talent by 2024, we might have a good year. The price we are paying for Stricklin hiring Mullen.
Well, the team who has chosen to 1) play the game or 2) chose to stay with the program. This team is NOT a reflection of the team in the middle of the season. Not that it was all that much more capable, just that it provided some depth.
31, cool number, but it is 7th in the SEC. SOD would be proud of the SEC air raid This year was a bust. CBN now starting over, hopefully with a big jump in portal and crootin.
My guess is that 1) no one cares about the bowls that aren't a NY6 game or a part of the playoffs and 2) it was as good as there was for a West Coast team who had limited options. We were the ones who had to head WAY out-of-town.
The good news is we turned the corner after that. Hoping Billy is our Pell without the violations/sanctions.
The ugly reality is that college football will now produce *more* of these glorified walkthroughs for teams that can't keep players. In forty years, that's the least prepared I've seen a Gator team.
This seems to show to me that scheme and playcalling is as big of an issue as the lack of talent. Even if better talent makes pedestrian schemes and playcalling look better, it is still a weakness. Running the ball into a 7-9 man box doesn’t really work without either a massive talent advantage and/or every player doing their job exactly right. I am not impressed with the offensive or defensive schemes, and am hoping changes will be made this off-season.
That's kinda my point, take away AR's ability to escape that first rusher, the threat of him as a runner and his arm strength, and we probably drop to 14th offense in the conference.
