Like him…like his demeanor and positive mantra. Think he will fix things. Seems like an excellent recruiter.

    However:

    - do not think he is a game day coach or play caller
    - in game decisions and play calling is baffling at times
    - needs a refresher course on use of time outs
    - needs to hire an OC
    - needs a special teams coach….this shared responsibility bs is a prescription for disaster and means no one is responsible….ST play this year was simply subpar.

He is a long-range focused person. Wins this year, without it building for the future, is/was not that important. The real question is, does he have enough of "his pieces" to have some real progress in 2023? Otherwise, he is going to have some major headwinds going into 2024. This fan base isn't up for long-term renovation projects.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

Gator fans are NOT a patient bunch. Don’t preach patience to us or try to change us.

Culture and recruiting acts may work at La-Lafayette, but you cannot suck for 4 years at UF promising year 5 is finally the year. 2023 must haven concrete and tangible progress in terms of number of wins, wins over rivals, bowl win, etc. or that seat will be thermonuclear hot.

Agree. I think Napier has an enormous upside but despite hiring an “Army” for a staff he is taking too much on himself.
Just hope he learns from experience. This one hurts…..Too.

They mic'd up Napier and showed him at the beginning of the game trying to encourage the team by saying "Let's have fun." He knew his chances for winning were pretty slim and that's okay. However, his play calling was absolutely abysmal and the execution was even worse. If you want to have fun, throw in some creative plays for God's sake. We couldn't block anyone running the ball and yet we kept trying the same crappy running plays. It didn't help that our offensive line apparently forgot everything about playing offensive line. I could accept losing 30-3 if we threw everything we had at them in the name of fun. We threw a Nerf ball at them. Both sides of the ball need better coaching starting with discipline. I'm willing to give CBN some slack but he better show marked improvement next year. I honestly can't see where we improved from the first game to the last. Right now, CBN doesn't look like a savior for Florida football.

Exactly why if you count from 2010 (Meyer's last year) we have had 5 coaches in 12 years, almost a coaching change every 2 or 3 years-what kind of consistency in climate, attitude, discipline, systems, recruiting can you have? We are now in the revolving door with coaches-some of our fans want to fire this man today-can't imagine what top coach would come here with coaches already considered on the hot seat after one year by some of our fans...

My HOPE is that the coaches spent the last 2 weeks recruiting and ignored coaching up the team for a meaningless bowl game. The team played as if they were coached by graduate assistants. Let's hope that's what happened and that the focus on recruiting pays off.

Was talking with Mini in the chat. Coach was even tone and positive at the beginning of the game. Mini questioned whether it inspired the players to play. And I kind of have to agree after the product we saw. The team was dysfunctional and uninspired for majority of the game.

Agree. Saw that with a previous guy too,

On note of long range focus. Anybody who is a competitor is not sacrificing squat one year for another. Multiple points of focus and different focus for different staff.

His pieces starts with his in game decisions and coaching acumen. That and the right coaching staff around him. If he doesn't have that straight then nothing will get better with "his pieces".

Today’s game was hard to watch. But I’m not sure what people expected with: a quarterback that has had very little practice time and absolutely zero game time, our best and most consistent offensive player (O’Cyrus) and defensive player (Miller) sitting out, 18 portal casualties, and matched up against a top 20 team with motivation to reach 10 wins. At least we kept the scoring steak alive……barely.

And one other thing, this bowl game didn’t even really give us much additional practice time. What, 3 weeks after the FSU game?

They are a part of "his pieces". If his coaches are not up to "AAA-caliber" status, he is going to have some real problems.

Hard to judge anything by this bowl. Yes, a total craptastic game obviously.

Miller had no chance before the game even started. Hasn't taken a snap all year yet has to hold it a team with so many departures.... He is definitely not a road block to a transfer QB seeing immediate playing time. Annoyed, probably unfair but he showed nothing to scare away a transfer.

Richardson leaving for NFL and not playing on the face of it isn't bad. Ventrell Miller has history of injuries so I applaud him not playing, plus he walked in graduation so kiddos. But Richardson... I don't know. He knew we had no backup due to Kitna's issue so he knew if he didn't play we were screwed. Put his decision up against Dexter saying he isnplaying even though he declared to.just play with his brothers one last time. Kinda takes my favorable opinion of Richardson down a notch or two.

Play calling sucks... mainly for lack of creativity. But who knows, plays that are completed successfully magically make it feel like better play calling. Given the lack of qb, unless we went wildcat all day what is Napier supposed to call?

We didn't have Ocyrus Torrence on OL, but weren't we also missing an9ther starter as well? Barber maybe? Seem to recall two were out... anyways, that makes it hard to run when almost half your OL is out, your dual threat qb is out. I feel bad for Johnson and Etienne... they are good runners of course.

This season is a big MEH for me. Light at end of the tunnel as far as recruiting goes... I just don't want to be Texas A&M with great players not being developed. We need an OC to go along with these good recruits coming in.

Do we need two OL coaches at the cost of an OC or ST coach? OL played good... but do did Oregon State's OL and they have one coach at the position...

I trust in Napier and expect proper changes to be be made.

Still holding out hope that CBN will get it done. The alternative is too ugly to contemplate. (an irrelevant program that directional schools start scheduling for homecoming or an endless cycle of new coaching hires every couple of years, which essentially results in the same outcome).

Well said and right on. Need a completely different play caller and different offense.
Just heard a caller on Steve Russell say Billy needs absolutely elite talent to make this work. Win 8-9 next year or heat is on!!

Caller is 100% correct. This game and season were bad for us and recruiting. What portal qb do we get that wants to run this offense?

    I'm on team Billy.

With that said, he has no fire. He wants to be a nice guy and that won't work as a coach. I miss the days of our coaches making fun of other coaches and school. Hell, even Muschamp made fun of A&M and TN.

    I miss winning.

The only thing that bugs me about this year is the total and complete inconsistency by our coaching staff. Our players proved that they were one of the more talented (judged by blue chip players on our team) teams, and in some games they were good, and then in other completely fell apart like in the Vandy game.

This game was about the loss of too many talented players so, I won't even bother to count it. But there was no effort far too often in too many game this year, and we see that on the replays.

These coaches need to look at themselves in the mirror and get honest about why this team played do damned inconsistently all year long. That is NOT a talent issue, that is a sign of coaching.
