I've read this type of post A LOT this season. Not every game. But more often than not. This team embodied inconsistency. One week the D plays well, but the O is off. Next game, they've switched. Next game both sides are terrible. I'll read that it's a talent issue, and the coaches need "their" players. But you watch, every week, teams with lesser talent, and even younger teams, play sound football. Coaches who tweak their offense around the players they have. This was a frustrating season. But, i'm hyped for next season.
I'm over the high of the streak, now we have to face so uncomfortable facts bout how we're been coached thie past year. Some people blame the players other blame the coaches, but blame alone without engaging in constructive criticism is not going to put any good ideas out there and it won't do anything to help us look forward to next year. Could we have had better players in the last guy recruited better, sure. Could we have gotten an more experienced coaching staff this year, sure. But it is what it is and we need to figure out what can help make us a better team by respectfully putting out ideas that maybe the higher ups are reading and listening to. Right now I think we need to assign one special teams coach and practice it at the end of every practice, and we need our best athletes on that team it like Meyer used to do it. That is a first. And we need to scrap the zone for a more aggressive man/press back end defense, with a pass rush that gets to the QB up on the fort end. That means a 4-2-5 defensive scheme. To do that we need many more DBs, which we are getting and we need more D-lineman which we are also getting. Let's hope our coaches have that in mind. Our best defensive play all year was exactly what I just posted here above. So, the coaches know what it takes and what it looks like to have a good, functional, aggressive defense.
I muted the volume on the ESPN goon show and suffered this debacle along with Shane and Shawn and the boys on the board. As a result, my honor as a Gator fan is still intact, and thankfully, so is the scoring streak. I also managed to avoid the worst of the verbal idiocy I've heard others talking about. I suppose that will just have to suffice for now.
I honestly think he’ll just be here for a year or two. Another bad hire, but to be fair, there were not many choices last year. I am not calling for him to be fired, but he won’t last at UF. It will just be a trivia question years from now, about the UF football coach from 2022-23 and some people will not know the answer off the top of their heads. The last guy thought he can just forget about recruiting and coach his way into winning games Now it looks like CBN is the opposite, who thinks he can recruit his way into wins and forget about coaching at this elite level
That and Kirby started out slow too with games like 4th and dumb... more than once. Letting a 5* QB go to OSU because he had a favorite QB (From) in mind to play for him. But he turned it around with good recruiting and firing the bad coordinators he had working for him. The coaches need to forget about favorites and play the best available players they have. The time-outs are getting better for Napier and his staff, so that's a plus. Game clock is something that he needs to work on. A two minute offense needs to be fixed, I think he will get that ironed out. Red-zone offense and defense needs to get better... he has to practice it more. Hurry up offense is a must... he needs to practice that too more. I think he knows that and he will fix it. The special teams is a freaking mess and that has to change. He knows it and he will handle it. I hope. This next year he needs to fix everything I mentioned above and then some. Tackling in the open field... needs to improve with practicing it more. Nothing gets fixed unless the coaches put real time into fixing these things. They are also perishable skills that need to be practiced every single day. EVERY DAY.
Yeah buddy I rode it to the end too. It was rough. It felt and looked silly to be kicking a FG at the end and I’ll bet CBN didn’t want to do that - but it was the right thing to do and thank goodness Mihalek (sp?) made the damn kick. Good news is that since this wasn’t a streak-ending shutout this game will fade from memory over time. Pressure is really on Napier to do better next season. It’ll be really ugly if he doesn’t win at least 7
People crying for us to run the ball needs to understand Oregon State was not worried about Miller being able to throw the ball - the had 7 in the box to stop the run and did so
Well if you and all the others are correct, when Billy is fired after next year we should have at least a better roster for the next guy. We are teetering on the edge of Nebraska and SMU levels of once great but now irrelevant
Sorry I accidently fat fingered dislike in my drunken stupor here. But I agree. It's been this all season.
Next hiring opportunity if this current one fails, it may be time to go back and find an Alum with a coaching pedigree, who is willing to pour their heart into this reeling program
That is another red flag, a bunch of kids leaving. A few is understandable, but the numbers are kinda scary
