Sticking with mlb. There is still better models out there than others. Like when the Astros blew up their roster 7 years ago and went into a full rebuild. There was some short term pain to deal with but they stuck with the plan and built a machine. And they did it by wisely investing money in the right places, improved scouting and player evaluations.

The nfl has it right even though I haven’t watched it in years. College would have to go that way to fix it and a draft wouldn’t really work for kids that are actually interested in an education.

Money ball works but only to a certain extent. Small market teams aren’t sustainable. You can spend your money wisely but you can’t keep the top players without the cash.

I guess my point was the Astros have the 11th highest payroll. They spend money, just not haphazardly. It’s not a stupid amount of money that others are throwing around ranked ahead of them.

So how do we police it? Conference members agreeing to abide by certain fair practices?

Easy - screw the SEC. They wouldn’t be pulling for us. To me it all comes down to recruiting and Ga is bigger competition for us than those big 10 schools

But this isn’t a salary cap issue. The NFL doesn’t govern product sponsorship outside of the official league sponsors.

But they do t need to. They have a draft, contracts, and salary caps. Players can’t just go to the highest bidder.

All other things being equal sure I’d go for more money. But choosing between scUM and UF is not all other things being equal. In my career I turned down lots of opportunities to make more money by leaving the company I worked for, and I valued staying where I was more than the extra $$. I also know people who left for more money and a few of them would not have left if they had it to do all over again. That happens all the time.

How does his mom feel about either team? Is she a Gator fan or is she a pUke fan?
