I guess the flip side is there were many flat drops, not talking a little off, talking two hands on the ball easy catch. Also watched AR thread some real dimes one was late vs FSU just over the CB and under the safety and Douglas flat dropped it. (He had 5 drops on the night).
Saying a handful every year at 70% is very deceptive, as they almost always come from group of 5 or lower level. Only one P5 QB this year. It is very rare at that level, despite a ton of QB having really good years this year in the SEC and other conferences. Yes, AR threaded some, and then threw some in the dirt. Trask had receivers drop passes too. The difference between the two was consistency. Same could be said for Emory Jones. Jones and Richardson are excellent athletes that make Trask look like a statue, but there is a minimal consistency needed to keep an offense running as a QB and succeed at high level football. Trask had that in a pass happy offense that Mullen changed to suit him. Not everybody is Lamar Jackson that can do everything with his legs to open up a passing game. Neither Jones or Richardson or Trask had that. However, Richardson could have succeeded in CBN's offense that gave a lot of read option. Richardson wasn't very good at reading the option, which is a shame, because he was tailor made for it. Teams even stacked the box opening up passing routes, and some days he could thread the ball into soft zone coverage and other days it was a nightmare.
I have seen this debate on YouTube. Richardson has great arm talent, but he lacks the ability to throw a receiver open or drop the ball over a receiver’s shoulder. He certainly can drill a receiver in the chest or put the ball through a facemask, which looks great on film but does not necessarily translate to a successful QB-WR combination.
I honestly do not remember Pitts dropping any pass that he got his hands on his last year. He was a beast
I pretty distinctly remember an ultra tight window A+ pass down inside the 5 that was flight out dropped vs FSU…. on a drive to tie the game in the 4th
I understand. All I am saying is that there is more to quarterbacking than firing a ball at full power towards a receiver's face mask. AR is accurate and precise in terms of hitting a target and that is easy to measure. If we watch enough film we can find a metric for dropped balls where AR hit the receiver in the hands, but there are no metrics for throwing a receiver open.
I think he got better at that as the season went. In the first few games he was definitely throwing some heaters when he should have been using touch.
I agree. Unfortunately he got better as his experienced receivers were going down with injuries. I am sure we can think of some first-time starters later in the season who let the ball bounce off their hands several times, but nobody is putting an asterisk on AR's stats over that. We can see with our eyes that AR's passing got better. More importantly, the scouts can see it and they seem to like him more than Gator fans.
So basically Dan Mullen outside of one year where Dak put it together and Trask. It's almost like QB accuracy is a major factor, not just scheme
You're kinda proving my point. Dan was run first (though with less effective schemes) and his offense produced low completion percentages...except for the 3 years where he actually had an accurate QB. In those years completion percentage took a noticeable step forward. Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to think Napier could accomplish the same with an accurate QB running his offense.
What 3 years are you referring to? Dak was 58, 62 and then 66 as a starter under Dan. Or are we not counting the QB of the Cowboys as an accurate QB? And even still it’s well known Dan totally changed his O for Trask. There is little indication CBN is that tactical
58 and 62 are "about 60%." So one year where Dak put it together and both Trask years. And of course Dan changed the offense a lot in 2020 when he realized what kind of players he had, but he didn't just switch everything up immediately after Franks went down. Trask stepped into the same offense Franks was running and was instantly more accurate with the same receivers and playbook Franks was working with.
You don't have to be real accurate to complete passes to Pitts. He could catch anything in his area code.
