Speaking of wild misses, you’ve been engaged in a WILD one the whole thread. Even Bloomberg admits that, if Russia can keep the war going through winter (which of course in can) Ukraine will be defeated by spring.
The Putin apologists just like referring to a war the US lost, so they go to Vietnam. The parallel isn't there and rings empty though.
I’ll concede that Vietnam is not a tight analogy. Back then the US could muster so many troops, largely through conscription, that it had as many as 600,000 in theatre in any one year. And it still lost to rice patty farmers.
You're so full of it, lmao. I've said on a few occasions - go check the post history - that I think Russia ultimately wins the war. They entered with one of the worlds largest and most powerful militaries. They also have 3x as many people as Ukraine, and are systematically destroying the country as the US and their allies are not providing Ukraine with long range weapons to fire back at Russia. I had said that Russia COULD lose if they didn't stop the Ukrainian advance - and it looks like they have, finally, slowed the conterattack. What I have said for sure is that the price of this war for Russia has been very very high - in terms of manpower and equipment. I've posted about that regularly. And the only one of us with wild misses on that is you, who seem to believe Russia hasn't lost anything. If you had told me in February that Ukraine would still be fighting, on essentially equal footing with Russia, 300 days after an invasion, I would have laughed in your face. It's been stunning how well Ukraine has done and I love reading about it. But I just don't see how they win a WWI style war of attrition without help from other countries. And when I say help I mean actual military intervention, and not just equipment. They just don't have enough people.
Ukraine had a HUGE manpower advantage going in. You had to have known this going in. Beggars belief that anyone would have imagined Russia simply rolling over Ukraine with an expeditionary strike force. Sour grapes being mashed here.
Yep and Puketin is back to his same game, threatning the USA and the world with annihilation if we dare challange his aggression. Just today he is saying there will be "consequences" if the US ships Patriot systems. Myself, I wish we would stake Ukraine with enough hardware to make even the most brazen of russian assasins throw down their arms and march back to Moscow.
“It seems to me we are on the edge,” warns Ukraine’s General Zaluzhny. More big attacks could completely disable the grid. “That is when soldiers’ wives and children start freezing,” he says. “What kind of mood will the fighters be in? Without water, light and heat, can we talk about preparing reserves to keep fighting?" Note to General: umm, soldiers’ wives and children are already freezing, without light and heat and are short on food and water. I honestly wonder if Ukraine is betting that Russia will run out of bullets, shells and missiles before it runs out of bodies. If it’s up to Zelensky, I suspect it is the case. He’s not having to suffer and die like his troops. He’s making millions working from home. Ask him how.
For our resident comrade: An alternate reality: How Russia’s state TV spins the Ukraine war – The Seattle Times
I think some hohol already posted this. I thought it was you. LOL, because when I turn on my computer, and pull up the news, all I see is Russian propaganda. Some Russian tanks got stuck in the mud. The Russian economy did not implode as imperialists had hoped. Russian casualties mounting to thousands, Ukrainian casualties to hundreds of thousands. US isolating itself from the global majority which is increasingly making common cause with Russia. Topknots still think Russia’s losing.
We all know what’s really happening. Ukrainians purposefully shelling residential areas in Donetsk. Meanwhile, on their own turf ...
Ukraine won't make it past winter. Russia now exclusively targeting power plants with the goal to send Ukraine back to the Middle Ages at the start of winter. Ukraine gets cold, very cold and most Ukrainians lack the experience of living in conditions where there is no heat. Already half of Ukraine's power production is gone and would take months to rebuild. By Christmas, Russia's goal is to take Ukraine completely off the grid. Russia is also for the 1st time using long-range bombers. About the only chance Ukraine has is we send Patriot batteries to them. That has its own set of issues like manpower to run one of them and it takes months to learn to use them. It might require the US to send troops into Ukraine to help man the batteries while they train Ukrainians. That will provoke Russia further. So Biden has a huge decision to make - give Ukraine to Russia to prevent escalating to nukes or help Ukraine fully with the understanding it might lead to an all-out nuclear war.
