The Peer Review….. it’s a brilliant concept that I can’t believe hasn’t caught on in the civilian work place. We all know that Co-worker who is only motivated to grind it out when he thinks the boss is looking. Peer Review addresses the fair weather worker.
Every squad member anonymously rates their team mates. If there are 12 guys, each gets a number from 1 to 12…. Low man gets recycled or removed from the program on their second “peer”.

At UF ROTC, I was a Gator Raider, and we did A LOT of Ranger-type patrolling FTXs, mainly at Camp Blanding. Had an alum come back and visit after he had just graduated from Ranger School and he shared a "lessons learned". I'll never forget his advice: "Always volunteer to hump the Pig: You'll never get peered." (The Pig was our name for the 23-pound M60 machine gun, plus the associated belts of ammo that came with it. No fun.) His point was not to 'game' the system, but if you had a mindset to ALWAYS volunteer for the most burdensome task, to reflexively shoulder more than your share of the burden, it would carry over into other things that mark you as a good Ranger. I had my share of problems in Ranger School, but Peer Reports weren't one of them. And that lesson has carried me well here into my 6th decade and always serves me in good stead.

The rope corral almost undid me… got through on my very last chance.
