This is an interesting article. Hope you all enjoy it.

When Dr. Salvatore Cezar Pais, an aerospace engineer at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), filed a patent for a “Plasma Compression Fusion Device” in 2019, it was either a giant breakthrough – or mad science. According to the patent application, the miniature device could contain and sustain fusion reactions capable of generating power in the gigawatt (1 billion watts) to terawatt (1 trillion watts) range or more. A large coal plant or mid-size nuclear powered reactor by comparison produces energy in the 1–2 gigawatt range. The revolutionary invention by Dr. Pais, if real, would produce near unlimited clean energy from something no larger than a sports utility vehicle.

Dr. Pais’ fusion device is among a handful of outlandish technologies dubbed “The UFO patents” that have, in some shape or form, been pursued by the U.S. Navy.

I’ve written before with some skepticism on the implications of Dr. Pais’ purported compact fusion reactor for U.S. energy independence. The physicist appears to have bona fide credentials including a Ph.D. from Case Western, and published some of his work, while much is presumably classified.

He has been employed by the Pentagon for decades. And this isn’t the first patent filed in his name, and all of them appear centered around what he calls the Pais Effect. Dr. Pais posits that by controlling the accelerated spin or vibration of electrically charged matter, high energy electromagnetic fields can be produced.

Since space aliens on UFOs don’t have standing to collect patents in the United States seems reasonable for Earth creatures to proactively patent any such technology they may bring.

The biggest problem with handkerchiefs is that you can never get them out of your pocket in time when you’re about to sneeze. I’ve invented a handkerchief with a built-in sensor that automatically comes flying out of your pocket and covers your nose and mouth when it senses a sneeze. Rick, I’m looking for investors. Any interest?

I don't like Rick's politics, to put it mildly, but I found the article interesting. Of course, what I know about nuclear fusion would fit on a quantum superposition.

If we only had an endless supply of Helium3. Oh wait, the surface of the Moon is supposedly loaded with it.

One of these days we are going to F around and start some kind of chain reaction that will destroy the Universe......Or maybe I've just been watching too much Sci-Fi.

I used to wonder the same thing when we first started nuclear testing - what if it just keeps on reacting....?

Then it would violate the known laws of atomic physics. Nuclear Transmutation is real.

In case anyone, such as moi, didn't know what that means:

Nuclear transmutation is the conversion of one chemical element or an isotope into another chemical element.[1] Nuclear transmutation occurs in any process where the number of protons or neutrons in the nucleus of an atom is changed.

Illustration of a proton–proton chain, from hydrogen forming deuterium, helium-3, and regular helium-4.
A transmutation can be achieved either by nuclear reactions (in which an outside particle reacts with a nucleus) or by radioactive decay, where no outside cause is needed.

Natural transmutation by stellar nucleosynthesis in the past created most of the heavier chemical elements in the known existing universe, and continues to take place to this day, creating the vast majority of the most common elements in the universe, including helium, oxygen and carbon. Most stars carry out transmutation through fusion reactions involving hydrogen and helium, while much larger stars are also capable of fusing heavier elements up to iron late in their evolution.

THANKS! I told our broker to sell our gold. He urged caution as he thinks mass creation of gold by this process is probably quite a ways in the future as cost of production exceeds vale created.

The problem with making Gold from Mercury right now is that it costs much more in the energy needed to make it feasible. But time will tell.

Yeah, and when it costs, say, $x to make an ounce, the price per ounce will plummet because its rarity no longer exists. Diamonds are next. Indeed, precious metals may one day be a thing of the past. Theoretically, anything can be made. It’s just a question of technology.

Diamonds have always been artificially valued. Most everyone knows about how Debeers controlled and marketed diamonds but I'm not sure they understand to what extent. A true ruby is much more rare than a Diamond. Same for other stones like sapphire, alexandrite etc. I'm honestly surprised Diamond prices have managed to stay as high as they have with how much access we have as to why and how they were driven up to begin with. Especially since similar stones and synthetics are much nicer and harder to discern than CZs and even diamonds themselves.

Too much sci fi. They made a move titled (you guessed it) Chain Reaction. With Keanu Reaces back in the 90’s
