Decorated Marine heading to Congress warns US military is facing obstacles that are 'unsustainable' | Fox News Georgia Rep.-elect Dr. Rich McCormick, a Marine helicopter pilot and emergency medicine physician, warned on "The Brian Kilmeade Show" Monday that the U.S. military is up against policies and "wokeness" that are "unsustainable" for recruitment and morale. DR. RICH MCCORMICK: We're not allowing people back in who are already kicked out [from the COVID-19 vaccine mandate]. And we already have a 40% decline in recruiting, which is pretty concerning to anybody who has to deploy, because that means you have to deploy more, which affects the morale, which makes more people get out. So we're in a cycle that is really unsustainable for the military. If we're going to be a leading nation in the world, we need to reverse that very quickly. There is actually a change in the mentality of the officer corps, which is really surprising. Traditionally, we are the last bastion. We're the last meritocracy in the world where literally it doesn't matter what you look like, where you came from, you don't have to have any money, it doesn't matter what color you are, what race or religion. You achieve things based on how well you perform. And they're getting rid of this. They're starting to go to this mentality that they're teaching in colleges all across the United States and even the military academies now, that it's about a wokeness, about equity. Yes. And that's harmful. And to see officers reflect that nature really should be concerning to everybody. Because if we don't have the Marines or anybody in the military standing for what's right, what made America great, then where are we going? Because that's supposed to be the last bastion of meritocracy.
So the decline in recruitment is all about wokeness... Not that the US has historically low unemployment and that HS dropouts can get $15/hr working at the gas station. Silly...
So now "wokeness" just means requiring vaccination. Before the word just stood for being black. It is an infinitely mutating word
“Only about 23% of kids between 16 and 21 are able to meet our standards, and some of that, frankly, is reflective of the problem that we have in our country with obesity,” she said, adding that behavioral health and misconduct are also factors. A second “really hard problem” cited by Wormuth is what the Army calls “propensity to serve,” which is inclination among the population to join the military and serve the country. “Right now, only 9% of young Americans say that they’re interested in joining the military,” she said. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/26/us-...ecruits-its-needs-to-win-fight-of-future.html
Its worse than you think guys, our pilots were about to bomb some Yemeni goat herders they assumed were terrorists, then they got second thoughts because they had to read The Wretched of the Earth in OCS. Its destroying our fighting spirit.
I’m not going to totally dismiss this, but how much of this is just the partisan divide everywhere, and we are seeing it in the military? We are to a point where one political side believes we are in existential crisis whenever the other side is in power.
What I dont understand is the guy is saying everyone is equal in the military, it doesnt matter where you come from, etc. And then he is like but now is about "wokeness, its about equity." He was praising the almost utopian sounding equity of the military on the one hand then saying equity is taking over and hurting morale or whatever. It doesnt make much sense, I wish these people would actually just say what the hell they mean. Like what do you want?
The Covid-19 vaccine requirement has nothing to do with "wokeness" it was and is about readiness. Anyone remember this? COVID-19 pandemic on USS Theodore Roosevelt - Wikipedia An aircraft carrier was rendered non-operational as the result of Covid-19 among the crew. Seems to be a rather serious issue to me considering that the infection is extremely transmissible. And let's not forget that service members are and have been required to submit to multiple inoculations some of which can have adverse side-effects for a very small number of inoculated persons.
I thought I read that they pulled the vaccine requirement from the most recent military budget, so problem solved right?
From the article: “What is important to the readiness of the force is getting the vaccine,” Singh said. “So yes, it would impact the readiness of the force – you’re more prone to getting Covid-19.” It’s not just about the US. American troops often have additional vaccine requirements depending on the area of the world to which they are deploying or being rotated through. Under the Pentagon’s current policy, service members who have not gotten the vaccine are considered non-deployable, Singh said Wednesday. ‘Make our job more difficult’ Indeed, retired Gen. Robert Abrams, who previously commanded US troops in South Korea, told CNN that the vaccine repeal “will make our job more difficult,” referring to the duties of overseas commanders. The Covid-19 vaccine is required for entry to South Korea and Japan – countries that host thousands of US service members. Repealing the vaccine mandate “will put the US forces in an awkward position,” Abrams said, because “the host nation expects us to follow their regulations (and SOFA [status of forces agreement] requires it).”
First, how many job sectors are not experiencing morale issues and labor shortages? "You achieve things based on how well you perform. And they're getting rid of this." Here, the Congressman-elect seems to be suggesting that the military is lowering standards to promote "wokeness" and diversity. Is he arguing that the U.S. military is letting people in that should not be there at all? Or that they're promoting too many Black folks, women, or trans people? Not clear to me what the argument is precisely or if there is any data to support it. I wouldn't trade the men and women of our military for anybody's. Russia's military appears to be a train wreck, and China's biggest asset is having a billion more people than we do. They're also not spread out around the world taking people away from their families like our folks are.
A while back I got an earful from a high school friend who later became doctor in the military. Some of his takes were ridiculous, such that he didn’t seem to understand how MNRA vaccines work and said they change your DNA. But nonetheless he probably was parroting the majority view among he military which isn’t exactly a woke organization. He was giving examples of how highly qualified military members were being let go due to the Covid vaccine, and also the change in policy post Biden administration of allowing and paying for sex change operations for military members. It’s a difficult problem, balancing military preparedness and social Justice issues. For more than a decade we kept “don’t ask don’t tell”, which on the surface is ridiculous because the organization was not at a place to accept gays in the military.
If a person says "it doest matter who you are if you can do the job in the military" and then get mad about paying for trans care, that seems to be a contradiction. If a trans person can do the job, that's the thing they were celebrating about the military, but then its also woke because its a trans person (who gets healthcare like anyone else in the military). Its completely incoherent to me.
