I think the Goliath grouper is a sea bass.

There are actually Black Seabass I believe. The Chilean Seabass are actually in the croaker family from what I understand and may be the fish you are referring to.

Probably are. I think there are actually like what? 450 kinds. I mean some of them have to be actual sea bass. Lol

The story was funny as hell though. Either way, the thibg is pretty yummy and probably pulls more money this way!

There’s a cool Asian restaurant in Troy, Michigan that features Chilean sea bass cooked in a banana leaf. It is literally the best piece of fish I’ve ever eaten.

There are two species of black sea bass in the USA, one in the Pacific Ocean and one in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. I've never eaten the Pacific black sea bass but I've eaten quite a few of the Atlantic ones and they're very tasty. If you don't catch your own you can get them in a good fish market. They're as good as snapper or grouper and they're not nearly as expensive.

Nobody wants croaker on the menu for sure. It’s all about what sells. Everyone wants Red Snapper and it’s the last thing in our box that we chose to eat. It’s not bad but it’s nowhere near the best either. Tourists and folks up North buy it all

We catch em from time to time but we don’t target them. There aren’t many around and they are too small to worry with.

I prefer snapper to amberjack. Love the little mangrove snapper

Amberjack never makes it to my plate. I give it all to friends. It’s not bad but I mostly only eat grouper , tuna, or wahoo. If necessary, vermillion snapper is my next choice and always available if our box is lacking grouper.

You ever drive west to Mobile Bay and eat at Felix’s Fish House on the causeway? Might be my favorite seafood restaurant of all time.
Eat in the bar - way better atmosphere than the main dining rooms

Mangroves are tasty for sure. We don’t often fish that shallow so I don’t get it often.

I would eat the young Jacks. Just the shoulder meat. The older ones get the worms occasionally.

Gosh, can't beat a grouper or snapper! I used to fish the jettys in Jax for drum as well. That is one thing I miss up here!
