Kinda, but they still can’t even beat Utah which a six and six Florida team can. Their record looks better but they aren’t any closer to beating Georgia than we are really.

I thank God I'm not a hateful, jealous or envious pocket-watcher who gets riled up by seeing other people getting paid. As long as there's football being played on TV, I will be right there with wings, pizza and beer watching it.

Yeah, I haven't seen anyone saying they're jealous of football players making decisions that are best for them and getting paid. I doubt there's too many people who care about that part.

It's a shame they radically changed NCAAF to do it though. I'm sure there were better ways if the conferences, schools and NCAA had decided to act in the best interests of the athletes rather than their own self interests. I think they forgot that the student athletes are what matters not making the most money for these "non profit" organizations. But here we are, and the disappointing part to me is the destruction of the student athlete concept.

One of the things that come out of this for me is that there was a time (not that long ago) where I could name the two deep roster and some of the 3 deep. With the transfer rules -and NIL- those days are gone. You will never have the same 50-60 players from one year to the next. Hell, probably not even the same 30 players.
Someone posted a list of all the departures, almost 30 of them, and I recognized only about 20% of them.

Student-athletes are alive and well, even in football. It's called Division III. Any university can downsize anytime they want.

That’s because the old guard ran the NCAA. It was basically created to keep that current system running in the guise of regulation and compliance.

I don't think transfer/NIL changed this. Go read the depth chart if you want to know who's on it.

like when the UGA player the day after signing day, walked out to their brand new dream ford raptor (this was pre-NIL)..... this was on tik tok or snapchat, blantently obvioulsy foul play, or duke paying for zion's house, I think UNC hired tyler hansbouroughs mom if I'm not mistaken.

The point is that you used to be able to be pretty sure who was going to be on the team the next year and there was a stronger connection to the players without having to read a depth chart.

The whining is getting old. Enjoy Florida football or move on already.
I personally find what's going on exciting to watch.

I forsee unlimited transfer in the next 2/3 yrs( rules committee voted it down this year)

I also expect full on pay for play in the next decade. If it doesn't happen on its own, lawsuits will be filed.

I was unaware that discussion forums were only for expressing views that align with your own, otherwise posters should just move on and be quiet. Interesting perspective. Personally I think having multiple perspectives is what makes discussions worthwhile but to each their own.

I could see why it would be exciting to watch lots of changes. I can also see why changes might be viewed badly by others. I don't understand thinking that people who disagree with me are whiners who need to go away though.

Thats awesome until the door stops swinging. You May or may not realize this but to keep this high flying pay everyone NIL thing going you need more fans, eye balls, boosters, and money not less.

Exactly! Those big ESPN and Fox Sports contracts exist so they can sell commercials. Lose significant interest and their $$$ plan starts to evaporate . . . conferences get significantly less $$$ . . . and BAM! Seemingly overnight there will be real enforcement of the current NIL pay-to-play some are abusing and limits on the current free agent transfer system.

Concerning since college game attendance has been steadily dropping since 2013, most notably among students. Not sure where the next NIL generation funding will come from.

Anyways, some posters seem amped to watch Alabama, OSU, LSU, Texas and Georgia sew up the college landscape even more so with legal pay to play. Personally I don't find that exciting.

I like watching teams composed of players that I am actually familiar with.

NIL is now in high school. So, feel obligated to buy a candy bar for a booster club fund raiser?

I expect/forsee the gradual collapse of college football over the coming years and these same geniuses will wonder why or how it happened while completely refusing to consider exactly how it happened.

People have been calling the demise of both college and pro football for decades. Won't happen anytime soon. Tv numbers are booming. Now stadium attendance will get smaller due to cost but TV viewership and media rights will continue to fuel the beast.

NIL and the portal are just this decades version of the facilities race from 10-20 yrs ago.

The fans that pine for the indentured servitude of players will pass and a new fan will rise in their place.
NIL will settle down from what we see now as the ROI won't be there for most schools.

This is the part that I'm struggling to wrap my head around - with the trajectory that college football is on, what will its market niche be? With players increasingly detached from the schools that they play for, and less connected to the students and alums of those schools over time, what will the market niche be that will cause people to focus their money and viewing time on college football instead of the NFL? If you want to see the best players, the NFL is the product to watch. The market niche of college football has been that fans live and die supporting players from their schools because they are from their schools in a way that the NFL can't compete with. If those players become less seen as being really connected to those schools, will fans still do that?

You are focusing on the wrong name. It's the name on the helmet that fans follow. Players have always come and gone every 3/4'yrs.
I graduated in 1996 and still follow the Gators no matter how many players have worn the jersey.
