I know I shouldn’t judge other people: Lord knows I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of. But if the state of Florida passed a law named after me because of my indiscretions I think I would be ashamed.
I don’t think Neon Deion is one bit ashamed for representing himself as a student athlete at FSU while a member of that schools football team. Nor do I think it was a source of embarrassment to his coach.
College athletics are spinning out of control. But then, I’m an old fogey who still believes qualities like honor, integrity, loyalty and character should trump self promotion and the lure of the almighty dollar.

I feel the same way. Everything he’s done is for self-promotion and he is still succeeding. Great role model, huh?

Sanders is a narcissist to the nth degree.
But I think he will have some success here in Colorado.

Just some 2 cents from someone with a long memory...
Sanders and I are about the same age- I've followed him closely since we both were in college at the same time. (I went to the 86 game in Tally in the rain and he was playing for FSU that night.)
I remember a SI feature on him as he was starting the NFL.
The gist was that the "Prime time" stuff was for branding (they didn't use that term back then, but that's what they meant.)
It was to get attention, and it was his attempt to make money back before Michael Jordan perfected the commercial/ athletic marriage.

SI also suggested that there was some intelligence and substance behind the show.
That Sanders was a hard worker and a good teammate.

From a personal standpoint, I'm prejudiced against him because he went to FSU and because the "Prime time" stuff doesn't appeal to me.
But I always say that sustained success is never an accident- that there must be real work and grit to achieve it.
And he's had so much success. It's far more than his hype and branding.

So maybe there's more to Sanders than most of us want to admit. Including me.

Not sure why you say that. I doubted him, but the dude far exceeded my expectations at Jackson State, a school with zero resources.

One thing for sure, he knows you have to have elite players at every position to compete. I'm very intrigued to see how he does. He's getting kids to sign an transfer in most skilled positions. you would have to be a fool to transfer or sign there if your a qb though. He clearly shows favoritism for his kid, as one would expect he would. Maybe the next qb is his nephew or something -- i just don't like his speech, insinuated you have to earn it or leave, but then he says, oh yea, my kid will be qb... he backtracked a bit, trying to act like he wouldn't just be given the job etc, but that didn't seem truthful.

can he recruit DL and OL linemen and linebackers?

You do have to give him credit, Jackson State has had very little success over the years (besides Rick Comegy in 2010-2013).
He created resources for a school that had very few.
he brought in players that clearly were on another level compared to most HBCUs. Clearly it needs someone with the cache of Deion, because it doesn't sound like what he created will be sustainable there. Which is unfortunate.

Especially since he is taking some of the best players with him to Colorado. Rough for Jackson State trying to rebuild from that. Even worse because now they know what winning feels like.

I don't disagree necessarily. He did a good job at Jackson State. But there are others out there with the same or better "substance" who don't have the same "form". Deion was criticized by coaches in his own conference for putting his own hype ahead of everything else. He is his own PR machine. He does AFLAC commercials with Saban. He definitely has form. Compared to others , I don't know that Jackson State gives me enough substance to to overcome the form.
