Emory still has college eligibility? That COVID year is making it feel like guys have been in college for a decade.

Mullen going into the season knowing Jones was his only real viable QB was inexcusable. No disrespect to Jones but given what we know of his shortcomings Mullen should have had more competition for him. Just more fuel to the idea that he hoped 2020 would result in an SEC title and possible playoff spot to spring him into an NFL job. When it didn't happen his lack of preparation and recruiting for long term success caught up to him and 2021 is what you ended up with.

He did have Jalon Jones transferring out. FWIW dude didn’t do much at Jackson State or BCC either.

 

Jalon Jones was gone when Chris Steele left that was way before 2022 though.

Going into 2021 you had EJ, AR and nothing. I'm the fan that acknowledges we know nothing about what really goes on behind the scenes and in practice so In hindsight he had to know EJ was extremely limited and AR was a work in progress.

I give Mullen a ton of slack for the Trask/franks situation because again, there were more factors than we care to acknowledge so it was tricky. Going into 2021 with what we had though and I put all on Mullen.

 

Looking at his history, he likes running QBs that when you have no offense, you can still run the QB. Emory had plenty of time to get acclimated and never felt comfortable for whatever reason. I think we all thought he would be.
