Griner, like Fogel and, probably, many other Americans in prison around the world, were incarcerated for doing some really stupid things. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t use diplomatic efforts to get the release of the ones who have received unduly severe punishments.

The flaw in your argument is you are acting like Biden chose Griner over Whalen. None of us know how these negotiations transpired. It might be beneficial if you would stop assuming things that you don’t know are true.
