Detroit: Jared Goff Tampa: Tom Brady/Kyle Trask Minnesota: Kirk Cousins Indianapolis: Matt Ryan Giants: Daniel Jones New Orleans: Jameis Winston/Andy Dalton Atlanta: Desmond Ridder Houston: Davis Mills Washington: Carson Wentz/Taylor Heinecke Carolina: ???? That's 10 teams with no obvious QB of the future. General managers don't get to just say "I don't like these QB prospects" year after year and keep their jobs. They have to keep trying to find QB's.
Panthers are starting Sam Darnold this Sunday. They are in bad need of a QB and are dumb enough to take AR. If AR goes there IMO he will struggle. While the pressure in Charlotte in not NY or Philly, the Panthers don't have the supporting cast and AR will be called on to carry the team.
Playing hurt ? Hmmm didn’t have any problem running guys down from 50 yds away that picked him off !! Yea he was really hurt , his feelings were hurt that’s about it!
Let’s be honest. Playing in the bowl game wasn’t going to improve AR’s draft status. What’s gonna improve his draft status are his combine and pro day showings. Him preparing for this makes perfect sense. Not sure why some feel the need to call out AR’s character. We don’t know the pressures he has from family to not blow their chance of life changing money. Imagine the responsibilities and burden some of these kids have to carry.
While I wish AR the best, and hope he succeeds because that is not only good for him, but for us too, I do not see him being a success in the NFL. I don't care what his "measurables" are. I watched the Bengals/Chiefs game the other night, and Mahomes and Burrow are so much better it isn't funny. They get the ball into the tightest of windows, run when they need to, and process the field so well it is uncanny. I never watched Mahomes in college, but I did watch Burrow. He lit it up in college, and now in the NFL. Both are team leaders. I've never seen any of this from AR, particularly the passing accuracy. He has never shown the ability to read the field instantly, and fit the ball in on a dime. He is not in their league. I'm not NFL coach or manager, but I wouldn't take a flyer on his "measurables". But you know what they say..a fool and his money..
I wish AR nothing but the best! You were great with the team and your teammates. I never heard a disparaging word after a ball game whether it was a win or a loss. I do remember your honesty post game press conferences and taking the blame for a loss but never did you take all the credit for a win it was all about the team! You represented the Gators well on and off the field and for that I am thankful. I sincerely thank you for being a Gator and you will always be a Gator! The best of luck in the NFL and I hope you are drafted in round1. Thanks AR for what you did for the Gator Football team!
Not for a few years or they are really dumb. If AR is going to be successful, someone will have to be patient.
They are desperate, and desperate teams do desperate dumb things. (This year will probably mark the 4th year in a row at 5 wins or less.) Desperate dumb teams do things like draft a guy like AR because of a good combine, then throw him in there because "you can't waste a high draft pick," and then get mad when that high draft pick invariably fails. I know you have been big on AR going pro. One reason I disagree is that I could see him going to a team like the Panthers then flaming out like so many do. Then he never gets the 2nd contract and his first contract money is spent. Then he's done. And the NFL will move on, while he's left with "what might have been." How sad. To say the least- he's not ready mentally or physically. But he will have a great combine because he's AR, and someone will draft him high.
I agree with everything you said except for the part where he ends up broke after four years. He’s a damn fool he’s broke. He seems like he has a decent head on his shoulders though.
Think of an average kid who is 21 and gets millions dropped in his lap. Does he invest it wisely, and say to himself "this may be all I get, so I better live like it." Or does he spend, spend, spend, and give to all those in need? I don't know AR, but I do know 2 things. 1) The AVERAGE person isn't great with money. They tend to spend what they take in. It's why lottery winners go bankrupt so often. 2) The typical athlete is confident/ arrogant. They MUST be to survive on that field. They aren't planning on "worst case scenario." They are planning on being a superstar. It's why so many NFL/ NBA players go bankrupt. It has nothing to do with him being a good kid. It's just human nature, and the nature of a 21 year old athlete. But maybe I'm wrong, and all these hangers-on who encouraged AR to go will also encourage him to save his money, live frugally, and invest wisely.
A bad team and a bad coach will cause virtually all young QBs to fail. So I agree it’s a risk but it’s always a risk for even the most polished of QBs. IMHO Tebow was tanked by John Fox and Rex Ryan. Who the heck could succeed as a young QB with that?
I’m not sure where Tebow’s ceiling was but there’s damn sure 10 or 12 quarterbacks on rosters starting at all times that he could have been better than.
Drafting Richardson may be a desperate move but the thing is most NFL QB's fail, even the higher drafted ones. Most likely the choice will be between Richardson and some other QB who would fail, too, so you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Every year there are roughly 3 QB's who get drafted in the 1st round and 7-8 total in the first 4 rounds. In the very best drafts of all time there end up being 3 good QB's. Some years there is only 1. If you're a team worried about drafting Richardson and want to draft a different QB, more than likely you're ending up with the next Paxton Lynch or Drew Lock. Richardson is not some unique kind of risk. He's just like every other QB prospect.
That doesn't bother me at all. What puzzles me is why any NFL team would take him in the first or second rounds, given what he showed in college. But I am sure someone will.
Trask will be in the same boat. His career is going to get torpedoed by a crappy ultra conservative lcoach in Bowles
Trask may be getting the shot with other teams also though. Tebow was too much of a circus and people didn’t wanna deal with it
